XNeat Boosts "Save As" Options for Document Wrangling
Posted by Kevin Purdy at 12:00 AM on May 3, 2008
Windows only: Free customisation utility XNeat adds a few unique functions to the rich library of tweaking utilities, and some might become must-installs for Windows power-users. The most notable are the additions to the standard "Save As" dialog: an option to create a numbered "clone" file when you're about to save over an existing document (i.e. "Paper(1).doc"), and a time-stamping utility that adds numbered dates to filenames automatically. XNeat also lets you enable drag-and-drop taskbar re-ordering, giving you your preference of left-to-right app layout, and a full set of windows management tools, including transparency and system tray docking. XNeat is a free download for Windows XP and Vista only.

@Barron: I just came across Taskbar Shuffle a few weeks ago and love it.
Definitely beats my old method of renaming items and sorting alphabetically!

Anyone just looking for the taskbar re-ordering should check out Taskbar Shuffle. Highly recommended.

If you don't mind losing the ability to move tray icons, too, Taskix is an alternative to Taskbar Shuffle with 1/3 the memory load.

The "Desktop Hot Menu" is great - an ALT TAB replacement++ but it's hard coded to WIN + SPACE which is my Launchy shorcut :( Bah!
Any ideas on away to change this?

if you have >1 monitor + ultramon, xneat 's start+space thinger doesn't list apps that live on the ultramon smart taskbar (e.g. 2nd screen task bar)

Seems a lot of it's done with VB Script - once installed take a look in the install folder under Scripts.
Maybe I could change the hotkey there (any VB scripters have any ideas?) but probably thats against the terms of the EULA...
Overall I prefer Pitaschio for the window management features but I do like these Save As options so I think I'll keep this in my toolbox.
