Next Tab Keeps Your Tabs in Context
Posted by Adam Pash at 6:00 AM on May 3, 2008
Firefox only (Windows/Mac/Linux): Firefox extension Next Tab adds an option to the right-click context menu to open a link in a new tab directly next to the current tab. If you're the sort who's still got 10 tabs open on a light day, you know how quickly your reading can get disorganised. Next Tab helps keep those tabs in context and next to the tabs from whence they were launched. Next Tab is free, works wherever Firefox does.

If you're keeping that many tabs open, I highly recommend going and using vertical tabs using Tree-Style-tabs. Esp. if you have a widescreen monitor.

Is there a Firefox plugin that does this by default?
It's about the only desirable feature in IE7!

People, the Tree style tab [addons.mozilla.org] makes all of this easier.
I'm loving it.

This is actually one of the reasons I can't stand using Fx, aside from mem. issues.
I use epiphany most of the time, which does this by default.

This is also an option in the excellent TabMixPlus extension.

I have 42 tabs open now. :\
I'm using tab mix plus, and the 'wider fox' userChrome.css, so that makes it easier... but not on my ram.

Tabs Open Relative works well also.

@nitz: I once had 40 tabs open and it made my Fx so slow that I just had to restart the browser and start again. How fast is your browsing with all of those tabs open?

Wouldn't it be simpler to install Tab Mix Plus and avoid all the redundant extensions that only perform one of it's many features?

I use TabTreeStyle, which puts the tabs in a tree on the side, instead of on top. This can be very handy for people with many tabs and with wide screens. I have 33 tabs open now and I can see all of them. Another cool feature is that related tabs are opened under the parent tab to create a hierarchy. Those can be collapsed or closed together.
