Grab a Free Chapter of Google Apps Hacks
Posted by Kevin Purdy at 10:30 PM on May 2, 2008
Philipp Lenssen, author of the oft-linked Google Blogoscoped blog, has put together an entire book of Google Apps Hacks, covering Gmail, Calendar, Docs, and beyond, and his publisher is offering a sample chapter as a free PDF download. The sample delves into Google Presentations and how the PowerPoint-like app can be extended pretty far with style sheet tweaks, theme changes, and a little creative use of photos. Hit the link below to grab the free 19-page excerpt.

Looks to be interesting, definitely something I will be looking at buying. Google is such an interesting company, I mean it doesn't function in any way like a major corporation ought to, yet it is making so much money!

I'm wanting a copy for my shelf - I use it enough now that I need to learn about more features. My only concern though is how fast changes are made - just recently (in the past week or two) I noticed a "New Features!" link while in Google Apps and the number of new features/functions was about 2-3 pages long.
Add to that the new GoogleGears (which I'm not certain is covered in this book but SHOULD be) and the ability to work offline and this book might have to be updated 2-3 times per year.

Any chance you might provide book updates on an official website or the oreilly.com site? I'm sometimes overwhelmed with how much info Google provides on new features and tracking down the Help forum discussions and it would be great to just go to the book's official website and see regular updates to the book's content. Good luck with the book.

GA, cool that you want one :)
In the book we covered Google Gears in relation to Google Reader, though not yet Gears in Google Docs. O'Reilly made available the table of contents as well as the index as PDFs so you can also check some of the other topics/ technologies discussed in the book: [www.oreilly.com]

Looks like a useful book. I'd love to see it available for purchase online in PDFs, chapter by chapter. For example, I'd pay for the material on Google Analytics, but I'm not really interested in how to use Google Reader or Presentations. Seems like the perfect candidate for smaller ebooks.
