Print Your Own Ruled Paper
Posted by Kevin Purdy at 6:30 AM on April 27, 2008
Need some lined paper for note-taking, graph paper for drawing, or bi-colour paper for budgets? Printable Paper has you covered, assuming you've got access to a printer. All of the many, many templates are free and available in PDF format, and go far beyond 8.5 x 11 sheets to business cards, receipts and invoices, and beyond. Good starting point for making your own templates, or a good bookmark for those moments where one sheet can hold you over.

the title kinda made me think. Printable paper? Isn't all paper printable? But then i read, and that is a neat little concept.

Some nice choices there. Dot paper I haven't seen elsewhere.
I designed my own graph paper with info block at the top at one point because it was hard to find what I wanted and it was ridiculously expensive for what it was. Just keep in mind the fraudulently high cost of ink jet ink when figuring out whether to print your own. Also, typical lined notebook paper is made with a grade of paper much lower than what you'd probably be using in your printer.

@getjustin
Use the Easy button at Staples for that. Look for "copy paper" or nab some discards off the copier or out of the trash can at work.

Where did you find "business cards, receipts and invoices?" I searched for all three at the website and got "sorry, not found" errors for all.

One of the many great things about using OpenOffice.org, the free open source office software suite, is that it comes with so many templates including the ones noted here ... plus ... there are tons of additional templates available for OpenOffice.org free for the download.

These have been incredibly helpful for teaching. Especially when I realize that I forgot to buy graph paper for a lesson.

It's too bad they don't offer full color and faded versions of things so you don't have to waste as much ink printing the pages.

You know, I really want a place where I can print an envelope or an A4 paper that's smudged so I can enclose a cheque in there and mail it without anyone getting to put it against the sun and see it's a cheque.

@Woodsyx: Just set your printer to draft mode and print them "faded" yourself.
@Devil: Probably cheaper and easier to just go to the office supply store and buy some security envelopes.

This site is amazing and will probably be very useful to me since I'm still in school.

If it's cheaper and more convenient, why not?

Well, Justin, I spent a few hours developing a workaround you can use to produce blank pages:
1. Download one of the printable files.
2. Create a subfolder on your desktop.
3. Create another subfolder inside that subfolder.
4. Locate the downloaded file.
5. Move it into the sub-subfolder.
6. Open the file for editing in your favorite word-processing program.
7. Highlight all the printed text.
8. Change the font color to "White".
9. Repeat steps 7-8 for all graphics and lines.
10. Save the file with a new name.
11. Copy the file from the sub-subfolder to the subfolder.
12. Open the file from its new location.
13. Print one copy.
14. Photocopy it.
15. Scan the photocopied image.
16. Save the scan into a Word document.
17. Save the word document in your sub--subfolder.
18. Now whenever you need blank paper, you can open that Word document and print it.
;)
guess you could make your own blank pages by downloading one of the printed ones and then changing the font color to white.

That's awesome! I've done a similar thing to make graph paper, just making very light borders in Excel and setting cell widths so they're the same as the height, but this is far simpler, and so many options.

As far as regular loose leaf, I doubt printing it yourself is very cost effective. I see huge stacks of it on sale for 10ยข a pack regularly.

It seems like the economies of scale being what they are (and the cost of ink for my inkjet being what it is), buying lined paper would be a significantly more cost-effective way to go.
But in a pinch, yeah, this is a cute idea.
