Chilirec Records Streaming Radio for A La Carte Downloading
Posted by Adam Pash at 4:00 AM on April 26, 2008
Webapp Chilirec records streaming audio online through an easy-to-use online interface, then parses each recording for artist and track information for à la carte listening and downloading. When you sign up for Chilirec, you tell it the stations you want to record from a database of available options—you can't currently add your own, but one would expect this option in the future. Once the app gets up and running, you can browse and download any recording. We've covered several apps designed to record streaming audio from the likes of internet radio stations, but if you're at a computer where you can't install software or you just don't want to add another program to your start menu when you don't need to, Chilirec looks like a great solution.

Someone needs to make something like this for streaming video. It would take all the pain out of recording (or searching for recordings of) webcasted video of concerts, presentations, etc.

@firesign: Thanks! Probably won't meet my immediate need (scheduling and recording webcasts while I'm away that don't have URLs yet) but I'll keep it in mind for future use.

Check out Replay A/V. [www.applian.com.]
I've never used the video products, but their Replay Music works like a champ (doing exactly what this Chilirec purports to do).

I prefer Total Recorder to Replay A/V. (highcriteria.com) It is more capable of finding the stream with its own built-in mini-browser. Plus, for some reason, TR more consistently connects to the stream than Replay A/V. TR, however, has no video capturing capability.
