DIY iPhone or iPod Touch Car Dock

A crafty user at DIY web site Instructables makes a car dock for the iPhone or iPod touch from materials primarily found in your device's packaging. Throw a little bit of glue and some velcro into the mix, and you've got a clean, attractive dock for your car for virtually nothing. Just get a Griffin iSqueez cupholder cradle. They're like $6 and the iPod touch/iPhone is A.) securely cradled and B.) won't rattle.

it looks like that the ipod or iphone might fly through the car cabin with the first sharp break because I am too stupid to see that red traffic light and realize it in the last moment... ipod gone!

You have to admit that it looks decently clean. Sure it might fly out, but some sort of 4th pivoting arm would fit that. Drill a hole and use a small nut and bolt maybe to allow it to swivel.

@Deprong Mori: I have one of those, and it's a lot sturdier than the above solution. It's creative, but honestly, if I just spent $400 on an iPhone, I'd spend another $15 or so on a properly-engineered solution. Sitting on my desk is one thing; anchored to a moving vehicle where it's subject to inertia, centripetal force, etc. ... quite another thing.

Yeah, it makes more sense to get something like the iSqueez. I've had mine for over four years and it has cradled various full-size iPods in two cars. Even if I hit a speed bump or pothole, the iPod isn't going anywhere.

One more thing about the iSqueez: you can use the iPod. That's right: you still have access to the scroll wheel or touchscreen.
This DIY car dock pretty much renders your iPod or iPhone useless.

Great solution and everything, but still one final step that I think should have been added to this.
ROUND THE CORNERS OF THE PLASTIC BACKING TO MATCH THE SHAPE OF THE iPHONE.
So simple and yet will make this go from looking like shit to something pretty cool.

might just give this a go on my iPod Touch...
..On a slightly side note, I've just got a new car and it has an AUX input. Is there anyway I can use it to integrate mobile phone calling? I.E. diverting the sound from the handset through the speakers in my car as a hands-free solution (buetooth / wired / whatever?). I'm aware Parrot does this but being the 'Lifehacker' I like to believe I am.. I'd like to create a DIY solution!
