Google Earth Integrates Street View
Posted by Adam Pash at 11:59 AM on April 16, 2008

Windows/Mac/Linux: Google Earth has updated and integrated Google Maps Street View, meaning that not only can you soar over the globe with Google Earth—you can also hit the streets and look around when you get tired of flying. In addition to Street View, Google Earth 4.3 promises time-lapse videos of sunrises and sunsets, improved speed, and better 3D graphics. It's also added new first-person controls so using the software feels closer to what it feels like to play a video game. Google Earth is freeware for all platforms.

People have been hating on Google recently, but they're still miles ahead of other corporate behemoths. I mean, Google Earth is a pretty amazing program, and they're giving it away free.

Can I say that it was my idea? Oh well, an idea is nothing until you make it real....So sad...
Stupid idea anyway...

I just popped over to Dannybuntu's site. Interesting concept. I like it. I don't think I would be going after Google for royalties any time soon, but I like it.
Now, I want to comment on the sample picture you made ([s106.photobucket.com]) . Is it just me, or with all the crazy paranoid "heightened security" level crap, can anyone else see this getting forwarded to someone who forwards it to someone else and so on until it ends up in the email of some overly zealous local cop or federal agent who takes it out of context. The next ting you know, you're tweaking your Ubuntu installation when you hear the black helicopters circling and S.W.A.T. kicking in your door.
It would be the Cartoon Network publicity stunt all over again. ([www.cnn.com])

@brian8655: Ah I am sure that won't happen. I am in the Philippines. Home to 7,101 islands including Boracay!

I am always afraid that one day when I happen to be standing outside my home, and maybe I'm really unkempt or wearing ratty clothes, that will be the day Google is going to come by and I will end up on a street level map.

I doubt that Google themselves will go into the game business, but their services are extremely helpful for game/sim creators who wish to accurately recreate chunks of the real world in virtual form.

Now that that's done, can they go back to concentrating on the actual maps? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Google Earth, and still use it, but all the other map places have much better maps available, especially Microsoft.

@rollog60: I doubt that Google themselves will go into the game busi... However, you must consider that the images in Google Earth are their property.
