FindSounds Searches and Previews Audio Files
Posted by Kevin Purdy at 10:41 PM on April 16, 2008
For YouTube videos, presentations, or even just system sounds, having the right sound effect file can make all the difference. FindSounds, a search engine focused on audio files, is a heck of a lot more convenient than typing ".wav" into Google and wading through inconsistent results. Type in what you're looking for and specify parameters, and the results are offered in playable previews and waveform diagrams. I almost always found relevant results in the 10 or so test searches I performed, and being able to see how long the sound helps winnow down results when you're hunting just the right sound to fit into a project. Perhaps you mean "audiophiles files"?

great post, kevin
i was programmed to be a musician by default, and as such i'm in the constant need for certain sounds to mix into my tracks.
i have been using this great resource for a few years, i highly recommend it.
they also have a desktop software, windows-only i think, to search from. I wish it works in ubuntu (never tried to test it under wine or something)
by the way, i'm sorry if i double-posted. i lost my internet during my first try...

This is my favorite, [freesound.iua.upf.edu] more geared towards musicians. All creative commons. Snehith you might want to check it out.

I've used Find Sounds lots of times with pretty good success. For my most recent project I discovered the Absolute Sound Effects Archive over @ [www.grsites.com]
which has a fairly large selection of good quality everyday sounds.

I use Soundsnap quite a lot, but as with most of these sites the quality of the recordings can vary, and the compression used can be unsuitable for certain projects.

is usually use the freesound project ([freesound.iua.upf.edu]) to search audio files.
is a quite huge collection of creative commons licensed sounds and the quality is mostly better than the results at findsounds.com
its worth giving a try...
have fun, witti

Good times here! I used to visit FindSounds a lot, particularly to get nature samples to use in electronic music tracks.
Wish there was an audio equivalent to Flickr - Zooomr has audio annotations but that's more focused on accompaniment than providing the "meat" of shareable content on that site.
