Display Vista's Clock with a Keyboard Shortcut
Posted by Adam Pash at 4:00 AM on April 13, 2008
Tech blogger Amit Agarwal loves Vista's new system tray clock and calendar, but prefers not to move to his mouse whenever he wants to take a closer look. To remedy this, he's set up a simple shortcut to display the clock at the stroke of his keyboard. If you don't want to take the shortcut route, the post also details a few other methods for getting a quick look at the date and time. Got a favourite method of your own to get a quick glance at the calendar and clock? Share it in the comments.

They missed the way I get Windows to show the date - put the taskbar on the left side of the screen. There's more room for running program buttons, you can have lots of quick-launch and system tray icons showing, and vertical space is generally more useful than horizontal.

@joelena: but doesn't that make it a lot harder to see what the taskbar titles actually are? For instance, if you have a few word documents open at the same time, how do you which window is which file? All it displays is an icon and the first letter and if you make it wide, it takes up a lot more windows space.

@sw2: I prefer that method too, because in Vista you can see all the clocks that you have set.

@sw2: I like this since the shortcut given in the article has issues for me when firefox is in full mode, thanks!

Well, no one has mentioned the easiest method.
Put the clock in the side bar, and then - Win+Space will show it to you whenever you want to check the time!

@sw2: Awesome tip. That's much easier than making this shortcut. Gotta hand it to my fellow Lifehacker commentators! Sometimes the best ideas come from them! ;)

@sw2: That's a great tip, thanks! Much more slick than the article's tip.
