Stream Your iTunes Library to Your iPhone or iPod Touch

iPhone/iPod touch: Freeware application Simplify Media streams music from any shared iTunes library over the internet, effectively giving your limited-space iPhone or iPod touch access to your entire music library—no matter what the size. To use it, you'll need to install previously mentioned Simplify Media on your Windows or Mac desktop. Then, using a jailbroken iPhone, install the Simplify Media app for the iPhone from Installer.app. (Not yet jailbroken? Here's how.) You're limited to using Simplify Media to a Wi-Fi connection, and it's a bit buggy in the beta version, but as you can see from the video, it's got tons of potential.

I use Simplify media for a while.
But if you don't want to jailbreak your iPhone, then you can also use an Orb server to stream all your media.
Orb has a nice iPhone web interface that lets you find your pictures, music, videos AND internet radios!
I love to stream Internet radio while I'm out and about.
The cool thing about ORB is that it tests your bandwidth at the start and delivers content at the speeds you can handle. So you don't get crazy buffering and lag.

Funny; This app works on Linux but iTunes doesn't :).

Great App. That's a nice app, even though I think there are some other ways to do it. I know TVersity works as well, but for my Jailbroken (iPod Touch) I like it. My iPhone... Well, I don't feel like Jailbreaking it, but the limitless limit is nice.

I have not used the iPod Touch version of Simplify Media, but am very happy with the desktop version. I had some issues ealy on with it dropping the connection from my home computer to my work computer while streaming my iTunes library. I twittered about it being a problem and that day Paul from Simplify Media contacted me and worked with me on getting the connection working. They even sent me a new build that they thought would solve my problem. I am now running Simplify Media with no problems and can access my library as if I were on the computer with the library.

Simplify Media is great at what it does. It's the only app of its kind I've tried that can get past the firewall at work which makes it very dear to me indeed.

There are several programs out there that accomplish the same thing. While none that I've found are perfect, there are a couple that have more features. (and you don't need a jailbroken iPhone). I use DotTunes, myself. It's not free, and it's still got a few bugs, but you can stream video as well as audio, and it works (sometimes) over Edge.
Off the top of my head, there's also Orb and WeBot.

Oooohhh, let's all rush out and buy an iPhone.
Seriously, why is there a big fanfare every time the iPhone finally manages to catch up to something that people have been doing on WM smartphones such as the Treo for years?
A Treo running TCPMP, and a home PC running ORB will steam the pants off an iPhone anyday - over both Wi-Fi and EV-DO/3G, and it has removable media, and doesn't have to be jailbroken to run 3rd party apps, and is cheaper to buy in the first place, and more flexible, and has Exchange support. Oh, and Orb can stream ALL your media too - that means movies!
Nice try iFans, keep running, you might catch up one day.

@virgil22: Probably because the iPhone is an extremely popular device, hence, more people use it, and hence, people would want to know about stuff like this. ;-)

@virgil22: How long do you think the iPhone has been out? Besides, Apple locked down the iPhone (thanks to the jailbreakers!) so it wasn't as easy an a WM Smartphone. One of MANY reasons the iPhone kicks ass. I used WM for years (still have my iPAQ, Axim & others) but the iPhone rocks.

You can use Yoics + Tversity, and do the same thing without needing to use a jailbroken phone. Here's a link on how to set-it-up. [support.yoics.com]
To listen to music, just log in to yoics.net via your iphone or itouch - and you can play all your media (not just music). the beta is currently limited to 5min (yes, that's bogus) but once it extends - pretty nice way to go.
(yes, i work for the company so i'm biased, but music via edge actually works really well via my iphone).

@jarhead:
Say what now - Apple locked down the iPhone... one of many reasons it kicks ass.
Sorry, I just dont' get the logic behind that statement. DRM bad. 3rd party apps good.
Yeah yeah the iPhone has been out for less time and is "popular", but that doesn't mean it's valid to merde-ze-bed every time something new comes along for it; especially when that something isn't even as good as older technology on other devices.
