Google Docs Adds PowerPoint Export, Saved Searches
Posted by Kevin Purdy at 3:33 AM on April 10, 2008

Google Documents has added something that may not have a lot of flash, but it's probably the most-demanded feature since its Presentations tool launched—a plain ol' "Export to PPT" feature. That's a nice relief to a lot of cross-office compatibility problems, but a more quiet addition of saved searches is what's really new and helpful. Choose key words, document types, date ranges, authorship, or whatever else you're regularly looking for, and get those files quickly from the sidebar. Nifty.

This is great! What version does it export as? Will it work in a PowerPoint 2003 viewer or will I need to use the newer 2007 one?

The main thing that would help Google Docs would be to have it allow uploads of PDFs. I can't believe they haven't done this. Even if you can't edit them, you should be able to upload them.

This will make Google Docs presentations so much more useful! I guess the next step is to push for OpenOffice's .odp format.

Wow---don't I feel left out. I'm still waiting on the offline feature to be added to my Docs account.

Yea, so to add insult to injury my fiancee got it the night it was announced and here I am still waiting for it over a week later. Maybe it's rolling out to the newest accounts first or something since I've had my account much longer than her.

Well this post just reminded me of something. I was playing around with the Google Docs Spreadsheet the other day, seeing what it could do. It's pretty impressive, except I couldn't figure out how to do Drop Down Menus at all. Have they not added these yet or am I being an idiot?
