Snapture Powers Up the iPhone's Camera
Posted by Gina Trapani at 6:30 AM on April 9, 2008

iPhone only: Camera application Snapture adds advanced features to your iPhone's default picture-taking capabilities, like digital zoom, grey scale, auto-rotation and burst mode. You'll need a jailbroken iPhone to install Snapture (if you haven't already here's the easiest method), and from there you can use Installer.app as usual to load it up. Snapture also adds a handy visual leveller, and makes taking self-portraits easier by making the entire screen tappable (instead of just the shutter button.) Snapture is a free download.

@Ash A: I have the same problem. It just lags like a mother flucker...
@jarhead: Apple would be smart to snatch up some of these guys!
Yeah and how is that whole sdk thing working out? Anyone developing anything cool? We won't tell anyone ;)

I like this app but after taking a pic, I get a spinning animation that lasts too long. If only it was quick like Apple's camera app.

@AskTheAdmin: Agreed! I think Apple saw the various apps being created after the iPhone was jailbroken the first time and realized they would be stupid if they kept the whole web apps only stance. There are some amazing third party apps out there for your jailbroken iPhone.

I am going to try this out right now! I have been itching for a camera replacement on my already (thanks LifeHacker!!) jailbroken iPhone.
These 3rd party programs are doing wonders for the little guy when will Apple listen up and make this stuff native?

Despite it being just a little bit laggy, I've got to say it's pretty good for this early stage we're in. There's lots of potential for the iPhone. Can't wait to see where it goes!

I do not own an iPhone but I do know one of the developers of Snapture, he is the writer for one of my favorite webcomics. Applegeeks ([www.applegeeks.com]) writer Annath and four of his friends have put a lot of hard work into this app already and there are already plans for the next release. Personally, I can't wait to see where they take it. You can read Annath's introduction t Snapture here:

Excellent, much better than the CameraPro thing that you (in theory) had to pay for :)
