Share MP3 Mix Tapes at Muxtape
Posted by Gina Trapani at 6:00 AM on April 5, 2008
Webapp Muxtape lets you upload MP3's into a streaming playlist for anyone on the internet to hear. Register for a free Muxtape account, and start uploading MP3's (which you have permission to share), and send your Muxtape URL (youraccount.muxtape.com) to others, who can play your tunes directly from the page. Muxtape's interface is bare-bones—no album art and sparse song metadata—and there's no obvious way for listeners to download the tunes you uploaded. Check out Wired's field guide to existing Muxtape playlists for finding good listening there.

I dare not click on any of the above links, for fear of Rick Astley.

Maybe it's just me, but I like Mixwit a lot more. Feels like I'm actually giving someone a mixtape :)

this is a pretty sweet site, my little bro actually showed me this a little while ago. I just hope it doesn't get shutdown, it seems like its probably infringing a few copyrights. Also this is a great site to get free music from. Just find the songs you like, dl them with downloadhelper or something similar and then convert it from flv to mp3 with something like the recently mentioned free flv to mp3 converter:

@Shawn Farner: I absolutely agree...Mixwit is much more fun, in my opinion, and also seems to be on more stable legal ground. Plus, you can make more than one mixtape.
Plus, I had issues with the site in FF3b5 last night, and they emailed me back within 3 minutes! Never have I had CS reply so quickly...

@Shawn Farner: Mixwit looks like the way a Mix Tape site should look.
Muxtape although barebones should have at least have 2 things to make it easier
+ Categories for Genres to pick from
+ Star ratings for "word of mouth/star" love
Since everybody else is dropping like it's Hot "Shout out to my Homies at the ATF. Get the Classified Stuff you can't get nowhere else. My stuff is out of this world. Peace out. The Tapes are Out there." [foxmulder.muxtape.com]

This sounds like a cool idea. Of course, the record companies might disagree!
By the way, I'm doing a survey on digital music for a class at MIT. I'm giving $5 free credit on Amie Street to anyone who fills it. Check it out at: [www.surveymonkey.com]

How's this any different from MyBloop.com's playlists where you can actually upload your entire hardrive of mp3s and create playlists and embedd them anywhere, or Imeem's playlists?
the presentation? it's not called playlist, it's now called "mixtape"?
