Fill Out Web Forms Conveniently with InFormEnter
Posted by Kevin Purdy at 12:30 AM on March 15, 2008
Windows/Mac/Linux (Firefox): Some browsers let you set up auto-complete information for all the Name/Address/City/Password forms you fill out on a regular basis, but often with a "do it all or don't do it" functionality. Free Firefox add-on InFormEnter is a better implementation of that automated function. The add-on automatically places small icons next to every form space, but you'll likely want to turn that off and use the right-click functionality to fill in data from any of the profiles you can fill out—nice for creating anonymous personas for sites you don't quite trust. InFormEnter is a free download, works wherever Firefox does.

Is there any sort of privacy / security protection? what's the chance that some BOTs/web crawler won't crawl/hijack my brower settings and steal my personal stuff?

Helpful, but I certainly wouldn't put any 'sensitive' info on there at all. Nor anything else stored, for that matter.

@Norcross:
Paranoia gets you nowhere. What's a little bit of nibbling here and there? Put some private info into the form. What's the worst that can happen from using your name, address, and phone number?
Far less scary then what they do with your social.

I use FireForm, which works well enough. On the basis of this article only, there doesn't seem to be any difference between the two extensions (at least as far I might use them).

A much better extension is [www.sxipper.com] It's a form filler and password manager, OpenID integration, encrypts personal data, etc.

I assume most people are already familiar with it since it is the grand daddy of them all, but, to add yet another name to this list, I use Roboform. Granted, the pro version isn't freeware (the free version is limited to 10 passcards after 30 days), but it contains every feature mentioned in all of the above add-ons, and then adds numerous others on top of that. Easy USB portability and the multiple broswer support (FF, IE, etc.) are two things that are, for me at least, difficult to do without.

I've been using this ever since it first came out and it is one of those truly irreplaceable Firefox extensions. It saves me a huge amount of time filling out web-based forms and it is highly customizable.
If this extension ever were to break down, I think I would go nuts. I actually prefer it over Google Toolbar's Autofill feature!

@BugMeNot: Wow, [www.sxipper.com] is nice. I was using the Secure Login and Autofill Forms extensions for Firefox but I think I have to switch. I liked Roboform in the past, but I couldn't install it to my employer provided laptop. Sxipper might be a good alternative. Thanks for the tip.

Oh yes!!! I'm so happy to see this extension featured. This is a must have in my opinon and I've used this very extension for over a year now. I use it for things I tend to repeat over and over again such as my name, my anon name, my email address, my GrandCentral phone number, my home address and my anon home address and so forth.
@mr_oshodi: The information is stored locally on each machine, not on the web. It's secure enough, but even I don't use passwords, bank/credit card account information nor my social security number in there.
