Track Down Whoever Keeps Calling with 800Notes
US-centric: Tired of getting phone calls from the same 800-type phone number, but have no idea who's calling? 800Notes, a free user-submitted reverse phone directory, lets you see who might be ringing, whether it's a sales firm, debt collection agency, or other cloaked caller. Whether or not you find a match depends on if anybody else has reported the identity of the caller, but many of the matches have useful information, like a caller's experience in trying to get the other end to stop calling. For those who've recently changed numbers or seem to attract false debt collection calls, it's definitely worth a bookmark for when Google searching fails.

I've used this a couple of times now to alert others to fraudulant calls. I kept getting a call from someone spoofing thier caller ID and pretending to be the local police and figured out I wasn't the only one after looking at this site.

Excellent! I'm so happy to see a user database of numbers.
Although it's important that everyone know how to actually report illegal calls as well. You can file an online Form 1088 [esupport.fcc.gov] with the FCC for things such as fax machine calls, when no one says anything when you answer, calls/text messages to your cell phone and so forth.
Also, everyone should seriously consider adding themselves to the Do Not Call list [www.donotcall.gov.] While illegal calls will still get through, it cuts out A LOT of the unsolicited sales calls.

I normally just plug phone numbers into Google, and 9 times out of 10 this is the first site to pop up. It has enough information about callers that, if you're so inclined, you can really screw with them.

@SeanOHara: Just did that this morning. Turns out my "prank caller" was the Qwest Autodialer.
