Start Your Healthy Eating Habit

Get into a healthy diet by following a Calorie Counter's excellent beginner's diet guide. Learn the basics of nutrition and get definitions of nutritional facts (calories, fat, carbohydrates, sodium, etc.). Craft a diet after determining how many calories you should be consuming each day, and then select the foods that will supply those calories. Organise your food intake, whether with a written plan or with improvisation. Most importantly, once your diet is planned, be consistent. Once you understand the basics of nutrition, turn your diet into a permanent way of living and you can make it healthy and a lot of fun.

Based on the USDA recommendations. Remember, the same people who are fighting recommendations to limit free sugar consumption to 10%. Uhm, this crap doesn't work.
Far better to do something like [proteinpower.com]
Yep, far better. Use [fitday.com] with it and you will be doing great.
Lookit me: 55 lbs lighter and maintaining. More muscular. Healthier by all measures.

There's also a calorie/energy meter and nutrition guide on mypyramid.gov with a place to input both intake and exercise.

The main thing I have done to loose weight and keep it off is to eat in moderation - even cake, cookies, and other "not good for you" foods. It is better to have one or two cookies and feel OKAY than to deny yourself cookies for months on end then binge one day and eat a whole bag (or two or three).

WeightLossResources is amazing ([www.weightlossresources.co.uk]) but you have to pay for it. It is not that expensive and offers a free trial as well before you sign up.

@thepinkc:
And also the other half of eating healthy is to actually be MOVING and be active each day. Walking, biking, some weights or just doing SOMETHING other than driving, sitting at the office, driving home, sitting at TV.
When you stop living a senditary lifestyle and starting WANTING to walk to the store, bike for your errands and look forward to moving about - then the food becomes a compliment rather than something you have to micromanage to the teaspoon.
I eat healthy - chicken, rice, fruits throughout the day - and stay healthy. But I don't strees about treating myself to ice cream or a big meal everynow and then because OVERALL I work it off.

Besides the obvious healthy eating recommendations, I would emphasize the importance of proper hydration. A technique I was taught about a year ago is to drink six glasses of water (it's difficult when you are starting!) first thing in the morning. Then wait about 45 minutes or an hour (while you are getting ready) to eat or drink anything else. Then continue drinking clean pure water the rest of the day as normal. This technique stimulates all the internal organs and brings them rapidly to prime condition. You will feel the difference in a few days. Also another tip is to take ice cold showers. It will feel you with super energy and also make you sleep better at night.
