Turn Your Favorite RSS Feeds into a Newspaper with FeedJournal
Posted by Adam Pash at 12:00 PM on February 21, 2008

Web application FeedJournal turns your RSS feed(s) of choice into a newspaper-formatted PDF. You can either enjoy the newspaper-ness of the electronic PDF on your computer, or you can print out the paper for some offline, dead-tree reading. FeedJournal probably isn't the best solution for feeds that generally have shorter items (like the main Lifehacker feed), but longer articles fit really well in the FeedJournal layout. FeedJournal is free to use, requires registration with the site.

@BIRDMANX35 - I think the limitation on pages is for publishers offering preconfigured FeedJournal content for their blog/site/etc.

This makes a nice little feed formatter/aggregator for Kindle consumption.
I noticed a detail in the Kindle manual last night that I hadn't seen before:
"The conversion service on Your Kindle is meant for the receipt of personal, non-commercial documents only. You may not authorize the sending of documents from automated distribution services. "
Sucks.

I remember something like this was featured in the My Dream App contest a while ago, but it lost. This would be so beautiful. But I don't like this app. I couldn't import my feeds! And they have a limitation on pages. Simply unacceptable.

With a tagline like 'THE NEWSPAPER YOU ALWAYS WANTED' I would've thought that being able to delete the default feeds and substitute them with your own would be, you know, an important feature. Or can I just not find the menu to do that?

@ jackieb
if you click on the newsfeed, a page will load on the left, with a button on the bottom allowing you to delete that particular feed.

I actually made a suggestion for this idea over a year ago. I think it was on My Dream App. Though I know we need to save trees, I have a very difficult time reading feeds online, though I do it as much as I can. But for longer feeds this just might be the ticket.

Great idea, but not ready for primetime. After trying to add two feeds, the first feed disappeared and after the second one my profile is corrupted (when I click "Edit profile" I get "Cannot have multiple items selected in a DropDownList.")
Oh well.

@Kaffinator: I got that too. And other weird issues, like little or no documentation. I am disappointed :-(

@LissaKay: @Kaffinator:
Thanks for the warning(s), I'll pass on this one until V2.0.

@Kaffinator: @LissaKay: I just signed up and clicked on "Edit Profile" as well and got the same error message. This is a great idea but until they get some of the bugs worked out, I think I'm going to have to pass.

You shouldn't have to sign up to try it out. you should have to sign up for it to remember you and the paper you make.

I think FeedJournal is a great idea, but I'd have loved such a service free of charge, especially with the ability to name my own journal.
What would be even more awesome: the possibility for the PDF file to be emailed automatically everyday, ready to print.
Now we have to wait and see if someone can come up with a free solution.

Nice idea, but ASP error pages appear when adding some feeds, also if you (accidentally) navigate away from the feed selection page in the same tab in Firefox, then go back, it doesn't remember state so you lose all your changes. Frustrating.
I'm sure it will be useful when all the bugs are ironed out. Or it's not written in ASP.

@Me: I emailed them about the "Edit Profile" error this morning and just got an email back from them saying it's fixed. I checked and it is indeed fixed. At least they are quick to respond to problems.

I've been e-mailing Jonas over at the Feedjournal, he's pretty much a one man show right now, he's come a long way in about 6 months! I'll email him this link so that he can read your suggestions, there are some good ones here. Check back often with the FJ Reader in about 6 months it should be what folks need it to be.
In the meantime check out what I've done with the Feedjournal Publisher at:

and here at Scribd:

Cool, I've been looking for something like this. I'm going to go try it ... hopefully the bugs won't get in the way.

this site is not the most functioning solution for what it claims to do. for two weeks now ive been trying to use it, but there are far too many glitches...
