Edit and Remove Auto-Complete Entries in Outlook with NK2View
Posted by Kevin Purdy at 12:30 AM on February 12, 2008
Windows with Outlook only: The auto-completion feature in Outlook can be a time-saver, but only if you don't have to spend extra time making sure your message goes to the right John Smith. N2KView, a free Outlook modification utility, lets you jump into Outlook's auto-complete settings and view and delete entries, letting you free up those names you don't want to pop up when typing in addresses. Better still, using the guidance of the How-To Geek, you can pull off a quick export/import trick to actually edit your items, so you can assign whatever quick-type name you want to a contact. NK2View is a free download for Windows systems only. For more auto-complete wisdom, check out tips on avoiding auto-complete mix-ups.

You can also just enter the first letter, so a list appears, then mouse-over the name you want to delete and press the Delete key.

I've long been bothered by this too. However, there is an easier way to get rid of those old addresses. I was shocked by how easy this was.
1. Open a new message.
2. Type the address you want to remove when it pops up in the AutoComplete box, arrow down to it.
3. Press your delete key.
It is gone without the need for any additional software. Though the ability to import/export will be nice with this package.

i've used this a while back- it's great little app that is pretty useful. when i needed to send out a mass email to nearly everyone i've dealt with in the past couple of years, this was a great way to aggregate all the email addresses.

This looks useful. It's always bugged the hell out of me that Outlook's auto-complete offers me email addresses that are no longer in my contact list and are no longer valid. Many a time I've sent emails to old, bad email addresses because of this stupid feature and have never found a way to remove those old addresses. Hurrah!

I have been using the NK2View for sometime now, and have found it very helpful. There is though a certain issue I'm facing which I wonder whether others have found a solution:
When I invite attendees to meetings, those contacts which were obtained via the NK2View, will not have their availability shown(as they mask their primary exchange contact, which would show the availability).
