Songerize is the "I'm Feeling Lucky" of Online Music
Posted by Kevin Purdy at 1:30 AM on February 9, 2008

Songerize is a dead-simple interface for quickly playing streaming music, and it's destined to become a quick-fix addiction for music fans. Type in a song name, then the artist you think performs it, and hit "Play." If Songerize can find the song, it plays it in an embedded Flash device. If not, try another song. Described as the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button for the more full-featured streaming music search site SeeqPod, Songerize is the perfect tool for clarifying misheard lyrics, quickly playing a song for a friend, or just listening to music one track at a time. Songerize found 8 of 10 songs I threw at it this morning, and I mixed it about halfway between big radio hits and indie hip-hop and rock. Nifty. To get even more out of SeeqPod, download-wise, check out Songbeat.

[Songza.com] seems to have very similar functionality. I love the interface of songza, it works so gracefully.

Works pretty well, although I didn't get 8 out of 10 in my sampling, a very handy site to have, thanks!

The problem, for me at least, is that for many songs I don't know the exact title or spelling and Songerize isn't forgiving, to say the least. Like last night, I wanted to play Carl Carlton's hit. Was it "Bad Mama Jama"? "Bad Mamma Jamma"? "Mama Jamma"? Answer: "She's A Bad Mama Jama" and I had to google it to find the right title. With several of my attempts I didn't know if it didn't have the song or I just didn't know the title.

Seriously amazing. Streaming music is great to have. It's like Pandora without the BS.

Is anybody getting decent streaming from this? I get four seconds of music and then a minute of buffering...

At first I thought that songerize was really cool, then I checked out Songza...that one is amazing!

@AustinS: I agree, Songza works a lot better and has more of a selection from my experience. I could not find one thing that I was looking for on Songerize, sadly.

Wow, some of you guys actually can't find ANYTHING you've searched for? Maybe you're spelling it wrong? I found 18 out of the first 21 songs I tried, and I tried hard to run the gamut from "popular" to "ridiculously obscure". Here's my list:
Alkaline Trio - Radio (found)
The Flaming Lips - Free Radicals (found)
DMX - X gonna give it to ya (found)
Buckcherry - Crazy Bitch (found)
Jay-Z - 99 Problems (found)
The New Pornographers - Challengers (found)
Crooked Fingers - You Can Never Leave (found)
Natalie Merchant - Beloved Wife (fail; nothing found)
The Protomen - Will of One (found)
Tracy Chapman - Fast Care (found)
Rajaton - Butterfly (found)
Randy Savage - Be a Man (found)
The Avalanches - Frontier Psychiatrist (fail; wrong song, right band)
TISM - Everyone Else Has Had More Sex Than Me (found)
Bad Religion - Broken (found)
Social Distortion - Don't Drag Me Down (found)
Snow Patrol - Run (found)
Coldplay - Fix You (found; live version)
Jurassic 5 - What's Golden (found)
Queen - Don't Stop Me Now (found)
Paramore - Misery Business (found)
So, I'm sorry, but the claim of "it didn't work" has to be user error.

Seems to no longer work, at least for me. I tried a couple of songs yesterday, and it found them all. Today, it's not finding the exact same songs, or any songs, actually. It looked nice while it worked.

It worked for me yesterday, but now I've no success. Tried songs I haven't searched for, and some I have.
Just tried Songza and had instant success.

I am not too impressed. It couldn't find several songs I put in that I would expect to be within the top 25% of popular music. (That was before the apparent current outage.)

I'm getting absolutely nothing on any of my searches. I'm typing them in properly, and I even tried copy and pasting song title and artist from your list wisesalesman, and even the found ones aren't found.
Probably a great tool but it isn't working for me...
