Vouchers are an idea, however you are limiting your geek to shopping at a particular store.
Visa or Mastercard Gift cards are available which allows shopping at any store that accepts those credit cards. (Even online stores! Whoopeeee!)
It is nice to add a bit of extra thought to the gift, so keep an ear out to see what project he is working on or which area of geekdom he needs a gift for(Home theater PC, Car-Geekification, T-Shirts)
If it really helps, I recieved a gift from a family member from Thinkgeek.com which was a Wi-Fi detecting t-shirt.
Another great shirt would be the 'No, I will not fix your computer' shirt.
Listen to your geek long enough, and you will find what he/she wants.
P.S. Sex works well too...

@Gish Sex on valantynes day? Unheard of.
Agreed, it's all about meeting people's needs, rather than trying to create them. See my first comment. Eg. If they do outdoors, grab them a skeletal leatherman.
But does that really mean we actually have to listen to them? That would involve spending time in the same room with them, with out mouthes closed, computers off, and attention in one direction. You already have to do that on the 14th, do we have to do it twice?

@zombiespiderman: Anyone remember the racy Microsoft Windows XP TV ad with that theme... Guy undressing his girl, tries to undo the bra, and a username/password box pops up. "Windows XP: Expect the unexpected." only aired in Europe, I think.

Since it's the geeks that read this site, maybe the question should be the other way around... What do geeks do for their non-geek sweethearts?

Any help for the guy that doesn't know what to get his non-geek girlfriend?

I have to admit that when I saw the instructions for hacking that toy dinosaur to be able to say anything you like, my first thought was that, appropriately programmed, it would make an awesome valentine's day present. :)

guess we're lucky...two geeks at our house (which can be quite expensive)
non-geek girls typically are into things like perfume, jewelry, makeup, clothes, shoes and chocolate (the good stuff...Swiss or Belgian)
or so I hear

@freechaos:
Nothing with a power cord. :)
Jewelery is generally a popular choice. My wife buys all her own clothes and shoes, if you have no fashion sense, don't even try. Chocolates/sweets are popular, too, and flowers are always popular, too. Or maybe take her out on a town, get tickets to a concert/show.

@FreeChaos: Jewelry is a cop-out. Any schmuck can pick up a necklace or bracelet. Simply think of things she likes or likes to do. They don't have to be expensive or extravagant, instead, should be thoughtful and caring...this will show your girl that you listen to and understand her.

Oh man. That SEXY SECRET Book is so lame. Well, at least you can use it for kitty litter afterwards, or something.

Create an instrutable on "How to Create an Erotic Dungeon" and send her the URL in a Valentine's card with directions to your basement.

Two things:
[1]: How much money is this guy making between being linked in blogs like this and posts on instrucatbles for his metacafe movie?
[2]: No basic write up or parts list for the project? I wouldn't complain about this, but I'm tired of hearing this guy's voice all the time :P

Guys your hard drives are crashing! I have mastered the art of the gift that keeps on giving. I bought my gf a few blu-ray chick flicks. I will cook up a nice meal and tell her it's an all about her night. She will be so happy she won't even notice the new blu-ray dvd I bought to play the videos on! Even better I researched the deals and bought it at tigerdirect...paid with ebillme and got to send her a free box of fru fru chocolates! Now that is using my high speed processor!
