Send an Anonymous Message at HadToSay.com
Posted by Gina Trapani at 11:00 AM on February 6, 2008
Send that cutie who lives two apartments down the hall an anonymous message with new webapp HadToSay.com. Here's how it works: you register for a free account at HadToSay, write your message, and send the message ID and PIN to the recipient via "masked" email or by printing out a card. (See the video for the card bit; it's pretty darn cute.) Your recipient goes to HadToSay.com, enters their message ID and PIN, and they retrieve your message and optionally post a response. You never enter your or your recipient's names, which is a good thing, because all messages are public and browseable. Looks like a fun way to send your special someone a little something to make them smile. As with all anonymous messaging tools, this could be used for good or evil—don't be evil.

and how much did folks pay for Super Bowl time slots when all their commercials sucked? that commercial rocked and the time slot is infinite and free!

I'm pretty sure if you do something stupid, like threaten someone, they'll cough up your name damn quick.
There is no anonymity on the Internet.

Not only that, but emails claiming "someone has sent you a card; click here* to view it" is one of the hallmarks of the Storm Worm spams. Not a good idea...
* text claims to be a real card site, like hallmark.com, but link takes you to a trojan'd site instead

Let me see. Last I checked most people freak out when they get this type of thing. When a guy is sweet to them and gives them an anonymous "love letter" - most girls I know freak out because they are afraid of being "stalked".
Finally, if you can't bring yourself to say it in person, usually you lack the emotional maturity [I know, maturity is a vague concept] to enter a relationship or take this further beyond the initial "creepy" stage. Or you're cheating on your spouse, whatever, anonymously. Either way, give it a miss if you want to save someone from some hugely awkward moments and feelings.
Note - this is coming from someone who was creepy enough to try this type of thing several times. It really doesn't work.
On the other hand - it could be fun for some puzzles/games with a loved one. ;)

That was a good commercial. :)
I don't think the idea is all that creepy... provided it is tastefully done. Then again...the last anonymous love note I got was in like fourth grade.... I think I put it under my bed and didn't respond. Cooties can't get you if you hide them under a bed. ;)

Ha! After a few cute ones, it didn't take long to find someone who was a bit creeped out, as predicted by a few here.
And this one's just plain hilarious.
Gee, I hope these direct links last.

They've had these for ages. They are called anonymous remailers. They require a modicum of intelligence, but if you can't figure out how to use one correctly, then you probably have no business sending a message using one.

Maztec's right - it usually doesn't work... and mostly because you care too much about result. If you can't care less whether it turns out good or bad and do it just for fun, you'll start to get much better result.
Anyway this is the ultimate test whether the girl has sense of humor or not... (well, when you have it :) )

The problem is, the only anonymous love letter I'd like to send right now is to someone with a background in computer science, and I'd be too worried that he could figure out who sent it. That would not be good. :)

@srjenkins:
yeah you used to be able to have stuff remailed through telnet with any "From" address you wanted. I sure had fun messing around with that one. all you needed was a simple telnet client, man this was already old in like 1994... AND WHY NOT JUST SEND THE MESSAGE IN THE MASKED EMAIL???
or why not set up a throwaway yahoo or gmail account?
if you already have her friggin email address... good god grow some cajones!
