Gmail Multiple HTML Signatures Updated
Posted by Gina Trapani at 7:00 AM on January 30, 2008
Firefox with Greasemonkey only: Last week we introduced you to the Gmail Multiple HTML Signatures user script, which associates above-the-reply rich signatures to all your addresses in Gmail. Back then the script required hand-editing to get it working, but the author just updated it to make setting up your signatures a snap. Once the script is installed, go to a Compose or Reply page to choose your From: address, and create or edit your signature for it. You've still got to manually enter the HTML, but not in the source of the user script itself. (Nice work, Jerome.) The Gmail Multiple HTML Signatures user script is a free download and may make its way into the next revision of Better Gmail.

Email is for text, web browsers are for web pages.
I don't need "rich text" in my email signature.

This script doesn't work with plain text messages! It took me a while to figure out. FOXMAJIK is right, emails should be text, leave the layouting and blink bolding for web sites.
Can I have a plain text version please!

@FOXMAJIK and @AVOLARE I may look into a plain text addition down the road as I can certainly understand your perspective on the whole HTML in emails thing, but it probably won't be for a good while as it's not a priority in my world. No promises.

Wow! I am just blown away. This is THE MOST PROFESSIONAL SIGNATURE I HAVE EVER HAD SINCE USING EMAIL ON THE INTERNET!
I went ahead and used the css example Jerome provided and I've impressed myself!

I'm having the same problem as A3STHETIX.

It only seems to remember the signature for one e-mail address at any given time. I've tried saving a signature for 2 reply-to address but it only recalls the one I used last. Nicely done though... it fixes the signature float issue too!

this is great! but my sig is double-spaced. I used "" for line breaks (the lines weren't breaking without it). Is there something else I should be using?

I added a secondary address and it works fine that way.

Hmm... According to the site, it should work for Compose, Reply and Forward, but it only works in Compose for me (I'm just using a single email address right now). Otherwise, I really like this script!

I also strongly disagree with those that believe you shouldn't allow for rich text formating in Gmail Multiple HTML Signatures. I prefer to use Gmail over Outlook (or Thunderbird, etc.) for sending email from my home based business, but I have a logo that I would like to use (like Adria.Richards)in Gmail. I've been using a work around, but Gmail Multiple HTML Signatures is really elegant and makes my life a whole lot easier.

Thank you for version 1.06. Obviously it's more user friendly than version 1.03, but the huge fix for me is that 1.03 forced the signature so that it HAD to be used, so that the only solution was to disable the app. Now, if I don't want to use the signature, I can just delete it. Great job!

Just released v1.07
* Changed "HMLT" to "HTML" in left column box title (thanks Voyagerfan5761!)
* Added support for non-ASCII UTF-8 strings (thanks Andrew Chang!)
* Fixed signatures erasing each other (thanks to Kristof Speeckaertt, Dan, Michael Prassel, Elvis, Gabriel Rodriguez, and others!)
* Added list of currently saved signatures to left bar box.
* Improved empty signature detection
Chinese characters should now be supported. :-)

This is fantastic. But what is maddening is it doesn't seem to work for GoogleApps version of Gmail ie the paid version which is my default work email. I don't blame the developer - it just seems that Google, for whatever reason, cripple the paid version of their email. It is maddening. Not only does this not work, but the contacts view is the plain vanilla version, and more importantly the important shortcut of ] to archive a message and move to the next one automatically without having to go back to the inbox view doesn't work. Grrrrr. Has someone figured out how I can get the functionality on my paid version of Gmail that others get for free?
Frustratedly

ps Sorry this isn't on topic, but given I'm here I'd like to award some extra points if anyone can explain how to delete/edit autocomplete entries when composing as well. Its maddening to be given choices that one will never use again....I've searched LH and the web but to no avail. Thanks!
