Keep More Copied Items in Clipboard with Clipdiary
Posted by Kevin Purdy at 1:00 AM on January 29, 2008

Windows only: Free clipboard utility Clipdiary doesn't have all the bells and whistles (like cross-computer syncing) of managers like Ditto, but for simply keeping a list of all your Ctrl+C action, it's a handy, lightweight application to keep in your taskbar. Clipdiary tracks the images, rich text, and even pictures placed in the Windows clipboard, tells you where they came from, and can easily "attach" and "detach" itself from monitoring for privacy concerns. By default, Clipdiary tracks up to the 3000 last items you've copied, so you'll likely want to change that in the options dialogue. For those handy with databases, Clipdiary keeps its records in an SQL file, possibly offering some cross-platform productivity potentials. Clipdiary is a free download for Windows systems only. I use Clipdiary. It's great, but really glitchy. If it's not one thing, it's another. But for the most part - it holds what you copy, no matter what happens.

Clipdiary seemed to make every clip of my mouse a double click. I ended up uninstalling it.

I've been using ClipX for about a year and it's small and seems to have more controls than Clipdiary, including plugins for 'sticky' entries.

I use something called 3dclip - only holds text, and it's slightly buggy, but does the job discreetly. I only copy and paste text anyways.

Hmm.. my first comment w/ link seems to have been removed?
Anyway, AHK can make a nice clipboard manager. I whipped up a script to do so, but it's too long to post here.

It's not free, but IMHO ClipCache Pro ($29.95)is the best of the clipboard managers. You can store clips in folders, clean the text of html, remove blank lines & email formatting, & easily call up oft-used clips.

Ditto has been a lifesaver for me at work.

@tomstrummer: Your comment appeared on the page for ClipX ([lifehacker.com]). Yeah, slightly confusing of LH to cover 2 clipboard tools as featured Win D/L's in 2 days. Maybe the great "show-us-your-clipbard" shakedown expose threatens ;)

I agree with KENG, have been using Yankee Clipper for over 10 years. Great, tiny program.

got fatal errors when running it. Subsequently EVERY ctrl-C copy resulted in a new error popping up. Ended up uninstalling it. Never worked. Im running XP.

I use Advanced Clipboard Manager (ACM, [acmgr.sourceforge.net]), and like it so much I've set up WINE so I can run it on my linux box as well.
The maintainers have also responded to my questions very quickly.
