Google Reader Now Includes the Published Timestamp
Posted by Gina Trapani at 9:48 AM on January 26, 2008
Wanna know how long it took Google Reader to show you that post? Hover over the time stamp on the upper right hand side to get a tool tip that displays the published timestamp and the time GReader received the item. Recently Adam made a good case for using a desktop newsreader over a web-based one, and the lack of delay was the biggest advantage. (On the desktop, you hit refresh and you get the latest content on the spot). To Google Reader's credit, right now Lifehacker posts seem less than an hour behind.

My GReader has a blue icon today superimposed over the usual orange RSS icon with a green one faintly in the background. Anyone know what this is about? I can't see any new functionality besides what is mentioned in this post.

@raveheart: They just updated the favicon, and the things mentioned in the post. Maybe they didn't like the old one, but either way, we now have a new one.

I just hovered over on the feed item for this very post:

Luckily I quite like a delay. Gives sites time to recover after the Slashdot/digg/Lifehacker effect before I visit them. But I don't know if that would be an acceptable delay if I liked being one of the first commenters on a subject.

It's about time they added this, isn't it? I've been wishing for it since I found out that the timestamp shown wasn't the publish timestamp. Finally!

Never thought about those delay. Is it really so important?

Now how about a way to sort by time published instead of time recieved?
