Everystockphoto Stock Search Relaunches
Posted by Gina Trapani at 9:00 AM on January 18, 2008
If you're wondering where we find many of the purty images that accompany Lifehacker posts, it's over at Everystockphoto, a treasure trove of stock and Creative Commons-licensed images that you can reuse on your blog, presentation or brochure. Yes, we've already mentioned Everystockphoto, but yesterday the site got an extreme makeover plus an injection of more photos from Wikimedia and NASA. Everystockphoto aggregates images from several sources, like Flickr, imageafter, and stock.xchng so you don't have to search each place individually. Plus, membership and photo downloads are free. See also six ways to find reusable media.

Is it just me or are the pictures for everystockphoto not loading. I'm using the most current version of Firefox with no luck.

@brandonbeeson: they're coming right up for me ... also using latest version of Firefox. I do have the same problem from time to time on other sites, but these popped up no problem ...

@pocketpicker: It works great at home. My work computer decided to crash right after I wrote the comment. That had to have been the problem.

Yoto is quite nice. I've been using stock.xchng (www.sxc.hu), not web-wide but they have a decent image bank.
Thanks Gina. Posts like these make me turn into Daniel Franco from Project Runway's Season 2:
I love you, Lifehacker.

@shoplifteroftheworld: The handy thing is that both everystock and [yotophoto.com] are meta search engines so they search multiple stocksites. Also www.sxc.hu, www.flickr.com and [www.imageafter.com]

Can these photos be used for commercial web design?

Some photos can, some cannot without various permissions and attributions. Images from sites like [www.freerangestock.com] can be used for commercial purposes, just like any purchased royalty free photo. You need to read the terms for each site and sometimes each photo.

illn00b,
photodesign's comment is spot on. ESP and YP should add advanced search options that let you select your intended use (commercial, educational, church, personal etc) and attribution/permission requirements. In the meantime, (warning, shameless plug ahead) you could also use my free stock photo search site, PicFindr.com, which already has them.

I faced similar problems too but the page managed to load fine.
This alert about everystockphoto is interesting development. Just when you thought all things free on the net are not free anymore and there is no direction for new business models, you are surprised with netpreneurial creativity!
