Turn Any Phone into a Voice Recorder with Drop.io
Posted by Lifehacker US Edition at 9:00 AM on January 16, 2008
Previously mentioned file sharing site Drop.io has added a neat feature: the ability to record and share MP3 audio from your phone. Create a new voice "drop" and get a phone number and extension. Call it, and start talking or recording a lecture, podcast, or interview, and when you hang up, the recording's available as an MP3 download for sharing at a custom drop.io URL. Store up to 100MB "drops" (that's shared files and/or MP3's) for free or upgrade for 1GB of storage for 10 bucks. Update: This post giving you déjà vu? Our apologies for the duplicate.

The voice feature works well. It will be even nicer if they can manage to get a toll free number to use.

take a look at jott.com - you call a number and leave a voice recording...it will forward it to your email or someone elses with both the audio file and the transcribed text.

Anyone know of a similar service in the UK?

Really like service. That I can leave more than the Jott 30sec. msg is killer.
However I wanted to setup more than one Drop and save the number/ext. to a Favorites Page on my Treo 650. The challenge, how to get the # and ext. to dial automatically without having to punch in the ext. manually (eg. one click)
On the Palm forum, here's the solution (I would think something similar is available for other mobile phones).
"You create a Favorite in the Phone app (you can make 50 of these). Now click on the More button. You can now add Extra Digits and you can also specify of the Extra Digits are to be dialed automatically or not. If you choose not to dial the extra digits automatically, then you will see the extra digits button appear in the active call dialog allowing you to trigger the extra digits when you are ready. PS the letter p or a comma is a pause in the extra digits string."
Work like a charm!!
