Record Long Voice Messages as MP3s at Drop.io
Posted by Lifehacker US Edition at 12:30 AM on January 16, 2008

Free file-sharing drop box Drop.io has added a call-and-record service that makes the dead-simple sharing service even more helpful. Those signed up at Drop.io can call the number and extension listed at their page and record as long a message as they want—assuming it stays within the overall 100MB limit for free accounts. Very soon after, the recording shows up as an MP3 in your Drop.io box. It's a handy tool that helps create "ubiquitous capture," like Jott, and while it can't do as many things with your voice, it's certainly useful for podcasters and making verbal notes longer than 30 seconds.

I love it. It's absolutely perfect for my intended use. Well, if the audio was embedded in the RSS feed, *that* would be perfect.

Hmm! Might have to try this, could be quite useful. Sounds similar to [www.utterz.com] which I believe lets you call in and has a player for your blog. Has anyone tried either of these yet?

This could be useful for leaving homework and project reminders for myself after a class. I'll have to try it out.

I just started using drop.io. I noticed that they did even more than just a place to post files. They also have an option so you can email your files to the drop box which will automagically post them to your drop.io folder. Very convenient for distributing humorous videos without clogging friends' email boxes.

This looks good. I might have to try this for some quick reminders.

FYI, I tried to send a .VSD file and it doesn't show up. My .VCF sig and .XLS files made it though.
