Solojones Transforms Old T-Shirts into Undies
Posted by Lifehacker US Edition at 7:00 AM on January 15, 2008
You already know you can turn that old t-shirt into underwear yourself—but if sewing's not your thing, hip undie company Solojones will do the recycling for you. Ship them your concert, race, techie schwag or any other tee to reincarnate, and they'll turn it into a pair of bottoms—a neat gift for the ladies. The transformation works best with stretchy shirts, and it'll set you back $30 (or $45 for two right now).

Maybe something for the guys? Like boxers or briefs from old T's?

I'd be more interested if this story linked to some DIY instructions, instead of a site that wants people to pony up $30 to $45 for the service.

@Gina Trapani: My bad. "Ask and ye shall receive." Or "look a little harder and ye shall discover." Thanks Gina!

Wow, even my favorite underwear made by Under Armour cost half that. I don't think that I would ever spend that much for something that you can get done by the old lady at the local fabric store in her off time for $5usd.

Why would you want old undies anyway? if my t-shirts are too old to wear, then they're too old to become a pair of bottoms too. I always recycle them as dishcloths.

Thank god they don't offer that service in reverse!

@PotKettleBlack: The original DIY article includes a link to a pattern for boxers.

i love old tshirts. They become so comfortable after a thousand washes ... perfect to sleep/laze around in.
Wouldn't ruin em by making underwear out of em. I only get rid of tshirts once they start developing holes.... wouldn't want holes in my underwear anyway, i think.

Maybe some people might not think this is cool, I think its awesome. Sometime you run out of things to get people, and well with valentines day coming up, my SO will probable like a t-shirt turned into undies better than new ones from some store.
cool.

Interesting idea, but it's probably too costly to do this as a mail order over the internet business.
$30/pair of undies that are already worn out is too expensive.
might as well get some nice silk or microfiber for that price.

@SANGRAIL: I wish they DID offer that service in reverse, think of the possible implications at the beach...or the local mall, for that matter! :-)
