Play Flash Media on Your iPhone or iPod Touch with iTransmogrify
Posted by Lifehacker US Edition at 10:00 AM on January 15, 2008
The iTransmogrify bookmarklet for the iPhone or iPod touch converts embedded Flash content to mobile Safari-supported formats so that Flash media—like embedded YouTube videos and streaming MP3s—will play from Safari with the click of a bookmark. Obviously your iPhone or iPod touch has YouTube built in, but if, for example, you're reading Lifehacker and we've embedded a YouTube video, Safari won't recognise that and take you directly to the YouTube app. One click of your new iTransmorgrify bookmarklet, though, and it will. The bookmarklet also supports several Flash-based MP3 players.

@twins8791: Yeah, there's still the matter of whether or not YouTube has encoded the video for the iPhone/iPod touch, which isn't the case for all YouTube videos. Supposedly YouTube is working toward that, but so far you won't find that every YouTube video is available for viewing through the YouTube app.

didn't work for me. i bookmarked it, went to the lifehacker homepage, loaded the bookmarklet, the "open youtube player" icon came up, and when i clicked it, the youtube player said "youtube could not play this video."
hmm...
ok...i think it's the "demo" video that doesn't work. the panda video worked, but not the demo.

Call me stupid (Hi, Stupid!) but I can't figure out how to bookmark the bookmarklet with my iPod Touch. Is there some wacky click+drag+flip motion I'm not familiar with, or am I just missing the point completely?

It's only partially useful. Doesn't work with many Flash sites.
As to why no Flash, it's because Apple & Adobe haven't ported one. Not as if it would be an easy port - you have limited system memory (about 120MB or so), limited processor power (412MHz) and limited battery life on Wi-Fi. All of which would take a significant hit (if not be unusable) with a poorly ported Flash.

I was excited for exactly 41 seconds from the start of the video. This is a good bandaid, but not the fix that needs to be implemented.

You can also just install this and more functionality with Installer.app directly from you iPhone or iPod Touch.
just look for an application called "Bookmarklets" Under "Network" in your list of applications.
You may have to add a source but its from the BigBoss Repository.
