Clear Your Mind and Slow Down

Is your mind wandering in fast motion? Relax. To avoid burnout, self improvement weblog Zen Habits suggest that you slow down. Right now. If you're mind is constantly spinning with ideas, thoughts, or deadlines, you initially don't want to expect immediate gratification. Resolve to take baby steps. Start imagining the next few days without any distractions and work obligations. Envision a day where all you were doing was dedicating the day to yourself. Eventually, turn those thoughts into reality—slowly. Spend time with yourself for an hour a day. Don't rush to finish the food off your plate.
Try to maintain a sense of calmness even in difficult situations. Slow down your attention span: listen more and respond slowly. Ignore distractions, for example, when you're driving. Instead, focus on the road and the surroundings. By slowing down when necessary, you'll reap many benefits. You'll feel better about yourself, appreciate your surroundings, and enjoy life a whole lot more.

Along those lines, every now and then make a conscious effort to physically relax your body. It's surprising how tense you can find yourself, even when you think you're relaxed.

Hey, this is really important. Down time, I mean. We should be doing this regularly. But just saying,"I need a day to myself," isn't enough. DO IT!! Really!! Also, meditating, praying, and focused breathing should be incorporated in this process. It helps!

I've been going through sleep rehabilitation, and I'm seeing that I need to start relaxing well in advance of bed time.
There's more to it than that, obviously, but it is clear that I bring too much mental baggage to bed.

If you find it hard to slow down, try this. Light a candle in a quiet room. Sit comfortably & focus on the very tip of the flame for 10 minutes. Thoughts that have been on your mind will reach the surface & release. It's hard at first, but soon you'll find yourself more at peace.
