Get Kind-Of Copy and Paste on your iPhone/iPod Touch
Posted by Kevin Purdy at 8:20 AM on January 10, 2008

One of the first things that stood out about my new iPod Touch's browser interface was the lack of a copy/paste function—and it really stuck out when sending email or filling out forms. Quasi Clipboard, a bookmarklet for the iPhone and iPod Touch, isn't a copy/paste fix, but it's a decent half-way fix. Hit the "Set" button and type in some text (that you're hopefully looking at in-browser), and you can recall that text into any text box later with the "Get" button. For hard-to-remember items like account numbers and URLs, it's definitely better than jumping back and forth between pages. Quasi Touch requires syncing your iPhone/iPod Touch with Safari (Mac) or Internet Explorer (Windows) to install.

WARNING:
If you haven't previously used the Sync bookmarks with Safari or Internet Explorer it will wipe out all of the bookmarks currently on the iPhone/Touch. This is not a 2 way sync (kind defeats the purpose of calling it "sync" right?). It will only sync bookmarks from your computer TO the device.
I made this mistake and wiped out 2 months worth of bookmarks. So be warned.

hey all, i know this is a little off topic, but i don't know where to turn.. what better place than lifehacker!? Is there anyway that i can make my iphone like new out of the box? I hacked my iphone and now i'm getting problems with "This accesory is not available" when i have nothing plugged in and it basically kills my music in every way. P.S., I did a restore and the problem kept happening so i was gonna send it in (also this is a refurb and i had other problems with it) when i realized, wait a minute, it didn't really restore my phone. My carrier was not set back to at&t. Then i re-hacked the phone so i could set the carrier back and installed some apps and all of my apps (mobilescrobbler,etc...) still had the settings i put in there before the restore. P.P.S. If i send it back, i don't want them to say anything, so how do i get back to Factory State? Thanx All!

I find that in reality the browser function of the iphone is unusable.
First it's painfully slow.
Second everything is too small.
And third, trying to navigate through a site is an exercise in futility due to (1) and (2) above.

The lack of text select and copy is what turned me away from the iPod Touch during my search for a non-phone handheld/pda style device. This Quasi Clipboard is kind-of neat, but lacking the ability to copy it still will not cover what I need to be able to do. Back to waiting for hps ipaq 200 series device to come out.
