YouTorrent, Your New Favorite BitTorrent Site
Posted by Adam Pash at 9:00 AM on January 8, 2008
Searching public BitTorrent sites for that special torrent can be challenging, particularly if you're looking for something more obscure. Web site YouTorrent simplifies the process by searching for torrents across the most popular BitTorrent sites in real-time, then dynamically returning and sorting the results by number of seeds. YouTorrent's results are fast and its pages are ad-free (for now). YouTorrent is reminiscent of previously mentioned Scrape Torrent, which does the same thing but has since turned into a pop-up blocker's nightmare. For the time being, YouTorrent is an excellent place to start your BitTorrent searches.

Ditto on the error--hope it's resolved soon, the idea sounds cool.
Far from perfect, and a quick hack job, I created a simple javascript form that will search my 4 most used torrent sites (btjunkie, mininova, pirate bay, and isohunt). Basically I have a form with 5 fields so you can search for 5 things at a time--downside is it opens 4 windows (one for each torrent site) for each search. But it works alright for me for now. Saves having to use my firefox search engines list 4 times...
Actually it's much easier just to see it--I uploaded it here: [www.matusweb.com]

Getting the symbols in FF 2.0.0.11, but it's a great idea.

I get the symbols, too (Ubuntu, FF), but using the search field brings you to a normal looking page. Very cool! Now I know where to find vintage "art" films...

Is it just me, or is the site looking like a bunch of symbols? It could be me... I mean, it's been a long day.
(it's happening w/ both firefox and IE)

Torrentz is another torrent aggregator.

The home page looks nice but any search I try simply results in a parse error in one of their php scripts.

Hmmm... maybe they've fallen prey to the Lifehacker effect -- the site doesn't seem to be working right now :/ Have to give it another shot later.
I like Torrents.to for doing multi-site searches. There are a couple of adds on the main page, but nothing obtrusive and no popups that I'm aware of:

I swear, a large majority (I'd say about 90%) of the media I own, I would have never bought if it hadn't been for file-sharing programs and Bittorrent.
This site seems cool, good find.

I love it. I previously used Torrentz.com and I have already found several things on YouTorrent that I had never found anywhere else.

I don't get a single pop up or anything on Scrape Torrent's site. Love to see you Firefox fanboys admit your flaws. Maxthon's built in Ad blocker deals with whatever is on Scrape Torrent fine.
But I also use IsoHunt to search for torrents now.

I might have to start torrenting stuff now. I always shyed away from it because of the difficulty of finding what I was looking for.

@ChuckBales: Yeah, but it seems that youtorrent constantly provides a constant and live results. Useful for, like what ADAM PASH said, keeping tabs on lesser known stuff.
Or, when the strike ends, tv shows!

Does AdBlock not work on the original site? otherwise... seems fine to me

Cool site, bad name...
Just adds more confusion...
afterall we already have uTorrent the bittorrent "client" - aka microTorrent, muTorrent, whatever else (wikipedia has a bunch...lol MTorrent too I think....)
Hopefully they don't get sued by BitTorrent, Inc. & Fam...? Since they may now own the rights to the "utorrent" name with the "merger".....?

Makes me sad since I've had my site for about a year, [www.torrenttyphoon.com]
BT search engines is an interesting market, because I get a fair amount of traffic but all these other sites must also get a fair amount. It takes a lot to be a cut above the rest, implementing AJAX was one of my features that I was proud of. When I get more time, I want to expand the member features more.

I miss demoinoid :(
I'll check this site next week when I plan to search for some torrents, hopefully it'll work nice, because the only I used was torrentscan.com

The interface looks very nice. Generally you'll find the same torrent on multiple sites, they are easy to identify through their hash value. Torrentz.com uses that to collapse multiple results so that you only get one line pr. torrent.
I'd like to see that feature on youtorrent, clicking on such a line would expand it to reveal links to the individual torrent sites.
Torrentz.com also seems to be somewhat faster, although it gives fewer results as it apparently uses less fuzzy string matching in its search.

well...I just did a comparison search for some obscure items between scrapetorrent and youtorrent. Scrapetorrent -- awesome found it! Youtorrent -- zero results. Scrapetorrent -- filters by media type. Youtorrent long list of what I don't want. Scrapetorrent -- no pop-ups that I can see. Of course I use a pop-up blocker so, you know, kind of basic that.
Hands-down winner -- scrapetorrent. YMMV.

Why are people tagging web applications as BETA. Every web application is constantly under development so does that mean the whole internet is in BETA? Google has started a bad thing.

@Jos: Because people often don't read the part where it says "AS IS". Placing a beta tag on software let's you get less nagging.
