Keep Your To-do List in the Sidebar
Posted by Lifehacker US Edition at 9:00 AM on January 5, 2008
Remember the Milk users, to keep your task list in the sidebar while you surf, bookmark the skinny, sidebar friendly RTM iGoogle module. Bookmark it (link below), and then from Firefox's Organize Bookmarks dialog, select the new bookmark, open its Properties, and check off "Load bookmark in sidebar." When it's loaded in your sidebar, you can edit, complete, and schedule tasks on a reverse chronological list. Remember the Milk newbies, here's how to get organised with RTM. Thanks, Cork!

Toodledo (http://www.toodledo.com) also has a sidebar extension.

@ Gina
Thanks for this tip. I don't use RTM, but as a recent Firefox convert I find it amazing that I can open up my bookmarks in the sidebar.

@myself, I meant "I think the SECOND biggest to do obstacle is remembering to update your to-do list!"
it's too bad I type faster than I think at times and that you can't edit your comments!

I think the greatest struggle with managing to do lists have to do with the fact that once you're not at your computer, you forget!
the second is this: I have a treo, but I fail to keep up entry of all the tasks.
I think the biggest to do obstacle is remembering to update your to-do list!

I'm a new convert to Lifehacker but I'm beginning to wonder what I did without it! This is a great post and thanks for the link to the one's I missed.

Fellow RTM users, please help me out. I use Outlook at work, and I love the Snooze button. Sometimes I have a task that needs to get done, but I am in the middle of doing something else. I hit the snooze, and it reminds me again in 10min (or whatever time interval you choose). As far as I know, RTM doesnt have a Snooze function. I posted about this on the RTM forums, but nobody replied. Is there way to get this functionality or something like it? It would help me out even if I could get a list of Overdue taks via email or text message, but I dont see this option either. I love RTM, but I started looking for another ToDo list to use because I really need this feature.
Please help.

I started using RTM about 2 wks ago and love it (so far). I loaded the RTM sidebar bookmark but a problem is how to close the sidebar when i want it to go away. the only I found was to change the sidebar to one of the Sidebar menu items (View-Sidebar-Bookmarks) and then uncheck it. Is there a better way?
@qrius - i also have a treo and the mobile RTM works great for me (and I'm on a 650 with a slow connection).
and when that doesn't work I'm using Jott to RTM and Twitter to RTM. Both work well for me to get something on the list before I forget.

I use ToDoist and love it. You can load todoist in the sidebar too. Here are instructions from the todoist website:
You can load Todoist Mini (the widget version of Todoist) into Firefox sidebar. This means that you can have Todoist open while surfing the web (could be useful for bookmarking eBay things that you want to buy). It's pretty simple to get this to work:
* Open Todoist mini and bookmark it
* Go to Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks and locate the Todoist mini bookmark. Right click and go to Properties
* Check off Load this bookmark in the sidebar
Here is a link to Todoist mini. (You have to be logged into your Todoist account.)

I use a personal quicklog in my sidebar, but the RTM is a great tip.

I followed the instructions but I can't get my RTM to show up on my Firefox sidebar :(
I also use Google Calendars and it's kinda annoying to see all those blue checkmarks even though I don't have any tasks that day. Is there a way to hide them when I have 0 tasks?

Thanks for this!! I had a look at RTM a couple of months back, but didn't manage to stick with it, its nice to see how its come on! An the features it now has mean that I should be able to use it more easily!
And to think I was planning to get some work done this morning!!
