Control iTunes with Launchy
Posted by Gina Trapani at 12:14 PM on December 21, 2007

Windows only with Launchy: Control iTunes from the keyboard with a new script that adds Play, Pause, Stop, Next Song, Previous Song, Ratings, Track Info, Volume Adjustments and more to Windows keyboard launcher Launchy. Download the Launchy/iTunes script (which isn't a plugin proper, it's a Launchy utility) and click on the iTunes Control.exe file to install it. Rescan your Launchy catalog and invoke it to get to your new list of iTunes features. One step closer to Quicksilver... Launchy 2.0 is a free download as well as the iTunes utility. (The link below points to a 0.1 version of the script, but a 0.3 version is here.) Thanks, Daniel!

I'm having trouble with this... I install and it says it's done correctly, a whole bunch of icons appear on my desktop, and then I rescan the catalog. Nothing happens though.
What could I do?

and thus MediaMonkey. This functionality is missing from Dash Command

@aidan_cage: I have been using these scripts with Dash for some time. These should work with Launchy as well.

This is much easier to do in Keybreeze. That being said, creating similar shortcuts to perform tasks for any program would not seem difficult. All you have to do is make shortcuts to a program with command line parameters.

Has anyone had trouble getting Launchy to index mp3s?

Any method for controlling Windows Media Player through Launchy?

Rubbish! No one uses iTunes, unless they have an iPod or they are hardcore Mac enthusiasts. And in that case they will be using Quicksilver.
I love Launchy, and I would like to see it control Winamp, or even WMP. This utility, while glorious in theory, probably wounds the majority of Launchy users.

Actually this works too in Dash and people have been using scripts and shortcuts to get this type of functionality for quite a while already.
Pretty much anything that you can run using Launchy's runny plugin will work in Dash directly since Dash has always had direct command line execution.
The upcoming Dash music plugins had been mentioned in the Dash forums in the past, with greater functionality and direct integration.

but will they work for MediaMonkey?

Why did I bring up MediaMonkey in a post about added iTunes functionality? I guess every time I see something new that is geared towards iTunes I just want it to work for my music player of choice. iTunes doesn't work for me, but I want scripts like this to work for MediaMonkey.
