Make a Draft Dodger with Paper Towel Tubes
Posted by Gina Trapani at 4:00 AM on December 19, 2007
If cold air is seeping in under your door (and you've visions of your money flying out the door courtesy of your heating bill), you can make your own "draft dodger" to block out the cold. Blogging Mom Carolyn made one with paper towel tubes, hot glue, some powerful magnets (to keep it in place), and festive fabric. In about 10 minutes, for about 2 bucks, she's saving money and her toes from the cold. Crafty!

@nolookingca: I should note that while I say cardboard, I'm referring to the heavy paper-type and not corrugated cardboard, which might be a bit of a pain to tape onto the door depending on the thickness.

My alternative method:
1) Take decent quality cardboard
2) Cut and tape
3) Optionally attach wrapping paper on top
Works better if you have that little "bump" on the floor under the door so your cardboard doesn't scrape when you open the door.

I made one last year out of a thin sheet of flexible foam. (I can't think of the exact name right now.) Cut it to fit the door frame perfectly, rolled it up and taped it, leaving a small lip that I closed the door on top of. Worked perfectly and actually plugged the gap that the wind was coming through.

And I read "draft dodger" and thought of something else...
