Use a Mirror to Light Up a Home Office
Posted by Kevin Purdy at 10:30 PM on December 17, 2007

The Freelance Switch work blog rounds up 10 low-cost improvements that can improve a home office (or most any office, really), including LH editors' favorite, the cordless workspace. One trick in particular could be a boon for those dwelling in fluorescent-lit caves:
If your office doesn't get a lot of daylight, you might want to begin by maximizing that. Make sure your windows are clear of anything that impedes the light. If you are on the ground floor but facing the wrong direction to get much natural light, you can use a strategically placed mirror outside to reflect more light in. Similarly on the inside a mirror can help push light around your room.I get sunlight in my office, but in the wrong direction, so I'll definitely be trying this out soon. How have you improved your workspace without breaking the bank? Share your tips in the comments. Photo by flikr.

The article is focused on the self-employed folks who work from home offices.
In any case, you're supposed to take a break every fifteen minutes, get up and stretch, so a walk to a nearby refrigerator would actually be better for you.

They forgot something really important, a fridge.
Anytime you can reach under your desk instead of getting up to go to the office fridge saves time and potentially getting interrupted.

I totally agreed about the plant; they really do cheer up a place. Any office desk without a plant looks so depresssing and sad.

It's funny because those are little obvious things we never notice that can make a difference. Luckily, my home office is "well-lighted".

That depends on what you grab out of the fridge.
Junk foods/drinks could have an adverse effect on you...

Just keep the water cooler/jug close by and the refrigerator in the kitchen as far away as you can get it. :-)
