Find Secret Amazon Discounts with DealLocker
Posted by Tamar Weinberg at 3:00 AM on December 16, 2007
Search for and locate incredible Amazon discounts with DealLocker's secret Amazon Discount service. Input an optional keyword and then choose the range of desired discount—anywhere from 10% off to 99% off. Unlike previously mentioned JungleCrazy, the secret finder gives much more comprehensive results and allows you to browse through Amazon directly after you perform your search. Still, if you're looking for some amazing deals through Amazon, both sites complement each other nicely.

Wow. Very impressed. Even more so that it has a UK section.
Very nice.

In choosing the items to present, it seems to consider the price of used items in order to attain the desired discount. I like the concept but the website should allow the user to specify only new, only used, or both.
Regrettably, I don't find it very useful as I don't typically buy used items on Amazon.

I selected a minimum of 70% off and it still shows some items with 20% off or lower. Doesn't seem to work when I tried it.

The problem with these methods are that they use the list price for calculation of the discount which is why you wind up with $175 USB drives listed.
Check out: [www.dealscans.com]
This site scans the prices of each item frequently and finds deals based on that. Works much better than the list price method, in my opinion. Also, it keeps a price history, so you can make sure that you're getting a good price (and check whether it's likely to drop soon)!

Hmmm. The project has a great deal of potential, but there seems to be a bug somewhere, possibly in Amazon's tracking of it's own price drops.
For example, I just ran searches for "ruby", "rails", and "pratchett" as keywords, with "books" as the medium, and the discount level set to 80%-99%. The system took me to the right page (I saw a breadcrumb on the Amazon page reflecting the price drop amount), but every book I checked on that list reflected, at most, a 30%-40% discount. Even used and new pricing hovered around a 50% discount from the list price.
Might not be ready for prime time yet, though the concept is interesting. If the Amazon tracking system is at fault, the only solution for a third party might be to track price drops externally, which would involve significant database resources (unlike the current version, which probably works through an API).

Has anyone got this to work? Like others here, no matter what discount I choose I seem to get everything. If I choose 90-99%, I still get products only 20% off. It seems like no matter what you specify, what you get is all discounted items, no matter how slight the discount is. And even if you go through the "front door," most of Amazon's stuff seems to be discounted from list.
