Move Email from Outlook to Gmail

Outlook users who want to move to Gmail—or just back up their existing Outlook mail there—can do so using Gmail's IMAP access. Tech blog Digital Inspiration covers how. In a nutshell, set up IMAP access to Gmail in Outlook, and drag and drop your folders onto Google's servers. Simple.

I just did this not even an hour ago in Thunderbird! --it works there as well; Just drag and drop. Only thing I noticed, is that if you still want to maintain local archival copies, make sure to copy instead of just dragging.

I took the time to do this about a month ago -- converting my POP3 email from Outlook to Gmail -- and I couldn't be happier. I'd had a Gmail account as a backup for years, but still needed to keep my POP account for biz reasons. Being able to send/receive to Gmail from that account is fantastic.

Now the important question: "How screwed will you be when/if your Gmail account magically vanishes like those random people have been reporting recent?" I am too lazy to look for the source, but I read it about a month ago.
I have a copy of every email coming into my primary gmail account forwarded to a backup gmail account (just in case).

By people I meant non-business people. I don't know too many businesses that allow their employees to back up the corporate email onto a GMail account. I too work in the real world and am forced to use Outlook; however, I have not used Outlook for my personal email client for a very long time.
With the availablility of 5GB+ web based email that is accessible anywhere and anytime, as well as never needing to be backed up, it slightly surprises me that people still use local email clients. It more surprises me that a home user would be using Outlook.
I suppose I was wrong. My bad.

Given the Lotus Notes comment above by Chimera, is there anyway to use Gmail with IMAP to migrate Lotus Notes(LN)? I have a number of archived LN emails that I want to migrate, without having to manually forward them all.
