Add a Whiteboard to Your Hipster PDA
Posted by Kyle Pott at 11:00 PM on December 15, 2007
Turn a notecard into a miniature whiteboard by wrapping it with packing tape. As shown above, packing tape can also be used to laminate notecards you want to protect. The downside to carrying a notecard wrapped in packing tape is that you'd also have to start carrying a dry erase marker. Regardless, if you're a frequent doodler, big thinker, or work in an environment where dry erase markers are abundant, you can reuse notecards that would otherwise get scrapped.

Hehe, I made one of these in grade 3. Except, I used a photo album, with plain white photos, so that every single page can be used! (the smooth surface of the photo album plastic covers make it easy to erase with a cloth I embedded in the front cover).
Too bad my grade 3 creativity is gone already...

Carry a fine-point Sharpie, and foil-wrapped alcohol prep pads of the type used to prepare for injections.
Yes, this means *wet* erase, but the ink won't come off until you want it to. If the erasure can wait (e.g., for most checklists), just use rubbing alcohol and a napkin when you're processing the pile at home.

The ink *will* come off in your pocket. But, one of the biggest uses for something like this is not so much having a blank board as pre-printing checklists and "laminating" them this way. Car maintenance lists, grocery basics, morning routine, evening routine, GTD review processes, etc. Check them off and then, wipe and re-use instead of printing again.

@ Drang
Yeah, seems like whatever you wrote wouldn't survive much handling or pocketing. Dry-Erase comes off with the slightest touch.

I thought this was a KipKay video for a minute there. Seems someone wants to cash on on that dude's success.

I refuse to believe the ink wouldn't come off in your pocket and on your hands.

I've been doing the same thing with the screen covers on my Palm Tungsten. They tend to get worn in the places you write a lot, while the majority stays just about new. They're a bit thicker than packing tape. Work great on my cell phone and camera display screens.

Packing tape rocks.
The first thing I do with any portable electronic gear is put a layer of packing tape over the screen (trimming it afterwards with an Xacto knife.) It absorbs all the scratches the screen would normally suffer. And after a few months, just peel off the tape & put on a new piece and it's like having a brand-new phone.
With the tape 'shield' in place, the moment a scratch is too annoying, you just take a minute and re-cover it. It's great.

you can use a scrap of woven WOOL, like from an old tie or skirt instead of a dry eraser. this can be cut to the size of a 3x5 card. the problem is that it will get dirty and have to be recycled.
however you can also use handiwipes to clean the laminate as well.

I have pieces of empty scrap laminate that I cut to the size of my thin Moleskine pocket notepads. I write on the laminate with a grease pencil. The notes stay put until I want to reuse the clear tablet.

If you are using the folding cover for your Hipster PDA as illustrated here, the ink won't come off in your pocket. Of course, it might still smear on the cover itself, but at least it won't get on your clothes.

Lads...
What's wrong with using a pencil on a piece of paper? I hear that there's this new fancy piece of equipment that can magically remove pencil marks from paper. You can even get them built right in to the pencil now, I hear...

This is awesome. I added this to one of the card stock page at the back of my GTD/Moleskine. Works perfectly.
