Get Wires Under Control with Millepede Cable Ties
Posted by Gina Trapani at 10:00 AM on December 13, 2007
The Cool Tools weblog features some neat-looking, refastenable cable ties for getting all those wires under your desk under control. The Millepede Cable Ties are basically reusable zip ties, and they sound strong! Cool Tools reader David Perry writes:
The holding strength is amazing. I use them for all my wiring harness applications, but I've also connected multiple ties (the larger burly ones) to fasten down car-top luggage.Car-top luggage! I'm partial to velcro cable ties myself, but I wouldn't mind a package of these in my stocking. A set of 100 will set you back 25 bucks.

Well, I just don't buy it. The problem under my desk will not be fixed by some ties - however natty they are. The problem is that there are too many cables coming from (and going to) different places and they all different lengths so the most any form of tie can do is keep some of the cables together for a short distance.
The "hide the cables behind a pin-up board" solution might be the winner but that requires do-it-yourself skills I just don't have.

I'm an newb and am not sure what you mean by LE; however I found a pack of these at a local RadioShack a few years ago and absolutely love them.
Super easy to use; super re-useable; and by design, you can cut them and get multiple short ties out of oune standard tie.
Also, if you dig around their website, they have Tons of types, for various usage, to pick from; including hvac/plenum, agricultural, heavy duty, etc, etc.
Love. Them.

I've used these suckers for ages. They're close to perfect.

@zolielo: I worked corrections for five years and zip ties were a great short term solution when we needed to restrain a large number of inmates. Regardless of whether these are strong enough, I would worry about the person being restrained figuring out how to unlatch it. It is definitely easier to get out of than normal zip ties.

@zolielo: That's some kinky server room shenanigans there. ;p
These look a bit more sturdy and a lot less likely to wear out than the velcro ones I've got at home. I'll have to check them out.

$25??? The twist ties I got in that $2 Kroger garbage bag box work just fine for me.

Am I missing something or are these the same thing as zip ties (or tie-wraps)? Lowes and Home Depot has these in bulk cylinders (about 500 per cylinder) for about $10.
