Patch Up Office with Microsoft Office 2007 SP1
Posted by Adam Pash at 6:00 AM on December 12, 2007
Windows only: Microsoft has just released their first service pack for Microsoft Office 2007, promising lots of bug fixes, performance enhancements, and improved security. You can grab a full list of improvements here (DOCX alert!), but the update claims to have tackled all of the top software problems as reported by the Dr. Watson bug reporting system in addition to more popular bugs like the Excel multiplication bug. This service pack will be pushed out through Windows Update in the next three to six months, but you can grab it online now directly from Microsoft.

Holy 218 MB download, Batman! Where's the torrent link?
Oh, yeah. Microsoft. (shaking head)

@joelena: Ya, no kidding. You know that when a patch approaches half the size of the original install that something's not right (the downloadable version of Office 2007 Ultimate is about 500 MB).

Hmm, I might try this. I'm having a problem with Outlook 2007. A lot of the messages in my 'Sent' folder now have the date as 'none', and I don't know why. So I can't go back and check when I've sent a particular email.
Also, a lot of said emails now show html formatting tags.
Weird.
If anyone has a solution for this I would be keen to hear.
Thanks!

@joelena: Have you been getting slow downloads from Microsoft's servers? I personally haven't so I'm not sure I see the need for torrents. I mean, torrents are great but if a server can handle the load and the company supplying the file is fine with using that much bandwidth, why worry about creating a torrent? Just my thoughts, I haven't tried downloading the SP yet so maybe the server is slow but from past experience, I've found their servers relatively speedy.

As far as download speeds, why not use a download accelerator? I swear by them. Try Flashget or Orbit downloader (both FREE). I'm sure I don't have to explain to tech-savvy Lifehacker users but for those who don't use one, a download accelerator splits a download into 5 or more streams and downloads them at the same time.
You might not think this would do anything because your internet connection's bandwidth is only so big, but I'm here to tell you it makes a HUGE difference in speed.

@joelena: I got SP1 today through Automatic Updates and (if I remember correctly) it was only about 190 MB...weird...

Good news! I've had lots of memory leak problems with Office.
The direct link in the post however does not work..I had to go through OfficeRocker to get it.
