Take Video Music Lessons with ShowMeHowToPlay
Posted by Kevin Purdy at 1:30 AM on December 8, 2007

Windows/Mac only: Music instruction site Show Me How To Play takes an iTunes-like approach to video lessons, charging 99 cents for downloadable "Multiplayer videos" that let users watch skilled session groups move through a song, one instrument at a time. Even if you get by fine with free lessons, the site has a nice collection of mostly free features dealing with the music business, gear choices and other musician-friendly topics. Using the Multiplayer videos requires a sign-up, Quicktime and Windows XP/Vista or OS X 10.3.4 or later.

as Grungydan postulates, this search for "guitar lessons":
gets you 108,000 videos, and that's just for guitars! File this one under "99 cents for what?"

or if you go to garyhoey.com you can get a few video lessons from his site for free. Gary Hoey is an amazing guitar player if you've never heard of him.

@zarathustra: Ah, but remember that everyone and their dog wants to be a Guitar Hero. I don't imagine there's quite as many hits for bass or piano, and I seem to recall finding just one actual instructional video when searching for how-to stuff for drums, buried amid a ton of videos that just had "drum" somewhere in the title.
I think that if the videos actually teach you something useful, it's well worth a buck to not have to sift through the chaff.

This looks great on the site's intro page but the minimum requirements are bit much for my 800 MHz PowerPC G4 with 768 MB SDRAM.
Here's what's needed: Minimum Specification: PC - Pentium 4 1.5Ghz with 1 GB Memory | MAC - G4 dual 1.25Ghz with 1 GB Memory
