Rechargeable Cigarette Lighter LED Flashlight
Posted by Adam Pash at 6:00 AM on December 5, 2007
If you're looking to put your empty cigarette light to good use, the Spotlight LED flashlight fits snugly in your car's cigarette lighter outlet and recharges with the power of cigarettes. The clever little Spotlight costs $14.95, comes in 12 colors, and looks like an excellent stocking stuffer or Secret Santa gift. Let's hear other ways you put your cigarette lighter outlet to work for you in the comments.

"...recharges with the power of cigarettes."
My mother does this, but I've been trying to get her to stop for years. o_0
Jokes aside, that's a pretty cool device.

I just use an LED crank flash light $10, crank it a couple of times and the light stays on for 30 minutes it also has a place to plug in my phone charger. Don't have to worry about batteries and works great whether the car is dead or not. I can see this is something geek neat, but I'll just stick with what I have.

Is this so you can see inside the dark recesses of your dashboard?

Saw that in the latest thinkgeek.com catalog - I'd love to have one if my only outlet wasn't already occupied (and didn't feel like getting a bulky splitter).
I have a car lighter to usb plug which I can use to recharge my iPod, DS, or phone without having to carry around a ton of bulky car adapters. Multi-purpose tools are awesome.

actually did a quick google search for myself (it is the christmas buying season) and stumbled across this:[www.cell-phones1.com]
anyone know if these are any good? Seems ridiculously cheap.

"If you're looking to put your empty cigarette light [sic] to good use"
Who the hell has an empty cigarette lighter - with my GPS unit, the ipod FM transmitter, a cell phone charger and occasionally my laptop I'm already swapping these things out constantly. Now a cheap, compact splitter that's something i'd love to see (and have)!

Some Jeeps are now coming with a rechargeable/removable overhead light ...
When I think about how cars are going to be different, I wonder what out-of-the-box peripherals they're going to come with.

uh, I thought the batteries on those little LED flashlights basically lasted for 10 years anyways. So you'd pop this in your cigarette lighter once every 10 years for 15 minutes or so?

I have one of these splitters and it works great! Reading thru the comments, I was going to recommend it. It's not real compact, but is I think as compact as one of these splitters could be physically.

i think they should replace that socket with a proper usb 12v jobby, would save a lot of messing around and promote cars as a non smoking area considering it's enclosed nature

@Paul_Kuzma: Heck I've got one in my 4WD that's quite a bit smaller that that. Looks like a standard lighter plug with a couple of short wire pairs on the other end feeding to 2 standard sockets. The wires mean that everything can "dangle" off the socket (or lay down on centre console if that's where your socket lies). Sorry, no brandname though & can't even recall where I bought it...
Yeah, GPS, PDA, phone etc would be way ahead of a Mickey Mouse flashlight.

if this is anything like the one on ebay here:
[cgi.ebay.com]
make note - it takes 7 hours to charge this thing to use for only 2 hours.
-120 minutes per charge, charges in 7 hours
too long for me.

bmw has been doing this for YEARS, i've got a special socket in the glovebox of my '84 5er that charges a special flashlight. its cool that it's universal though.
next thing you know someone's going to market a trunklid mounted toolkit and it'll be called revolutionary.

The VW Toureg came with something almost exactly like this... and so i had my buddy who was a tech for VW order me a "replacement" one for my Audi...
that must have been 2 years ago. ...only mine charges in about 2 hours and lasts about an hour and a half... and look to be about two-thirds the height.

Staples had a USB Flashlight as well in a little security pack, comes with a safety whistle. Works in a pinch, and with a MintyBoost.

+1 to what DogHead said.
But I also have another cig lighter in the boot.
But if it is the same thing qrius mentioned, I think I am gonna skip.
@thirdopticaltool: I wonder if any dealers are offering them online...
