Avoid Downloading Fakes from BitTorrent
Posted by Adam Pash at 9:00 AM on December 5, 2007
If you've been plagued with BitTorrent downloads that won't finish, unplaying videos, or—worse yet—videos that claim to require special players, weblog TorrentFreak has put together an excellent guide to avoid downloading fake and junk files over BitTorrent. Some of the tips are common sense, like reading the comments on a torrent before downloading, while others—like getting to know trusted BitTorrent users—might be entirely new to the BitTorrent neophyte. Still not sure how BitTorrent works? Check out our beginner and intermediate guides.

Nope, don't use BitTorrent, but then again, I don't use (l)USENET either. Nope, nosiree. Never tried USENET. Not even once. Wouldn't know what a UUCP reader was all about...

well that's all well and good but how do you deal with these fakes if you have your BTs set up on rss feeds? When the file names are exactly the same it seems like there's really nothing you can do...

This is exactly why I miss Demonoid. Demonoid made things like checking comments and the quality of the torrents so easy it was practically painless, and they achieved this through the simple concept of sorting the files by categories (Name, format type, software type, OS, etc). If I could find another site with Demonoid's level organization then you could count me as sold.

@tech10171968: that was exactly what i came here to say. demonoid will be sorely missed because of the simple fact that i didn't have to worry.

you mean demonoid is GONE? Holy cow....it's been a while since I used BT :P
I read a great article here on getting free stuff from the library, so I basically just do that now :)
Great folks around here, donate new releases to the library system, etc....it's really great :)
