The 2008 Compact Calendar Now Available
Posted by Gina Trapani at 12:08 PM on December 4, 2007
Designer David Seah has released the 2008 version of his excellent compact calendar spreadsheet template, an entire year represented as a "candy bar o' time" which prints onto a single piece of paper with lots of room for notes. Fold up the compact calendar to stick in your wallet, or affix it inside a project notebook. The layout makes it easy to block out projects, vacations, and other long-term initiatives. In fact, it looks like a fantastic mini "Don't Break the Chain" Seinfeldian calendar. The 2008 Compact Calendar is an Excel (or any spreadsheet) template that works on all platforms. (Here's our post about the 2007 version.)

First time I've seen this as well, but I'm digging the continuous-flow format. Thanks, Gina!

This is the first time I'm seeing this. I'm going to have to check it out. Looks interesting.

And don't forget the 2008 Slingshot Organizer has been out for over a month.

The compact calendar is amazing - and 08 is improved and tweaked just enough to make it even better. Great job, David - I use it all the time!
Highly recommended.

I like the format, how it just lists all the weeks out, but the holidays don't fit in well since they sometimes fall on thesame line as the months. Maybe there should be another column (it breaks a basic data rule of having more than one time of data in a data set, i.e. in the month colum you have month name data and holiday data).
Would also be nice if it hada way to just type in the year to eliminate the need for a different template for each year. With somemore work it could be a lot better, for now I rate it a meh.

I can't wait to get my hands on this. I've been thinking about building one and this is exactly the format I was thinking about.
I'm gonna play with it for a bit and see if I can't implement a few features that I have in mind:
∙ Zoom levels: daily, weekly monthly
∙ Item groups: bills, car maintenance, expiration dates, personal (e.g., birthdays), etc.
∙ Hard deadlines vs soft.
∙ Carryover items not done by deadline.
Good start!!

I have never seen this before, and can't wait to see if it helps keep me on point...not much does! It seems to be much more than just "shits & giggles" software that I see so much of. A true tool, as opposed to a gadget or a whatnot.

I just figured it out; though I'm not sure how...

Looks promising. I would like to use this now but I can't figure out how to add December 07 in? If I copy and paste it messes all the weeks up... Any help?

@artstra: Insert 5 rows above row 5. Adjust the row height to 18px. In the box where teh 29th should go type '=c10-1' or whatever the reference is for the 30th. In the box to the left type '=I9-1'. Fill that across to Sunday. Then copy/fill the row you just completed up until you've hit the 1st.
