Find Free MP3s at BeeMP3
Posted by Adam Pash at 7:00 AM on December 4, 2007
MP3 search engine BeeMP3 aggregates tonnes of free music online, from Alicia Keys to Arcade Fire with a quick and dead simple design. Akin to web sites like SeeqPod, SkreemR, or the decidedly low-fi Google MP3 search technique, BeeMP3 is yet another simple way to find and download MP3s online. I can guarantee you'll see some copyrighted music at BeeMP3, so, as always, download those tunes at your own risk, etc.

I've been using Seeqpod, but I like how this one shows you the bitrate of the file. Sweet!
@SciotoSurfer: You don't have to paste the address anywhere, just go File>Save Page As to save the mp3.

Well, it found my test songs ok but it doesn't make it easy to download. I stuck a quick page on one of my web sites just for situations like this.
Click the song file name. Wait for it to fully download and begin to play. The full URL to the MP3 should now show in your browser's address line at the top. Copy it and paste it here:
That will turn it into a link that you can then right-click and save to your drive. It won't have to download again so the save will be very quick.
Of course, you should only use this technique to save the non-copyright stuff.

Nice alternative to the yubnub.org's 'gmp3' command, but seems much better for single songs.
And SCIOTOSURFER, the link in my Firefox address bar was not to the mp3 itself, it still showed the beemp3 link. Although my browser is configured to download mp3's and not play them directly in the browser, so others may experience different things.
Somewhat related, Firefox has a built-in means to download embedded content. Tools > Page Info > Media (tab) shows all embedded files and allows you to perform a "Save As" directly. Seems to work better for media that uses absolute links rather than relative links though.

or in firefox you can go to: Tools-Options-Content-File Types/Manage and set the .mp3 extension to "save to disk" instead of play. Everyone's way will work though. just my 2 cents

I don't know, if I just want to download files great, but I like sites like last.fm,the hype machine, and TasteStalkr that put things into context. The mp3 bloggers are great source of finding new music, not just music that I want to download.

I just tried Beemp3 and was impressed by my search results. I've utilized [elbo.ws] and [hypem.com] for a while now. I just might have another viable option with [beemp3.com]

Check out eSnips.com, so far I have found every song I was looking for, and most of them are foreign....
The only site for me.

I figured there was an easier way than what I was doing. Thanks for the tips.

@morganlh85: Also I use Get File or DownThemAll for Firefox. That way I don't have to load the file in the browser window, I can just take the URL and have the file drop straight to disk.

Is it just me, or did beemp3 add the URL to landing page of found mp3's since this was originally posted? Coincidence or the power of lifehacker comments?

There's also [www.wuzam.com], lightweight graphics.. I use it directly from my nokia n95. Try searching [www.wuzam.com] for Monkey Island sound tracks! There are a LOT of covers!

This site looks like a a pretty blatant rip off of [skreemr.com] ...from the pop up box of extra info, to even using the same css elements!
They couldn't even come up with a very original about page! Compare:
[beemp3.com]
and
[skreemr.com]
are they scraping their search results from somewhere as well...?

@thirteen37: works for me too. I have a mac, maybe that's it?
Either way, its very simple and I'm impressed with the selection. I always wondered how mp3s can be posted on blogs without being indexed or hosted somehow.
Thanks lifehacker!

Seeqpod is cool coz I've tried finding a local band's song in my country (it's Hujan and their song is 'Pagi yang Gelap') and voila,it's available and with SkreemR I found other local artist with the word hujan in it but not the accurate one. but no luck at all with Beemp3. So, kudos to Seeqpod!
