Transfer Songs from Your iPod to Any Mac with Senuti
Posted by Adam Pash at 9:00 AM on November 15, 2007
Mac OS X only: Copy songs from your iPod directly to your iTunes library with free, open source application Senuti. We've mentioned Senuti in the past, but this app keeps getting better. Aside from the fact that Senuti has updated to work with Leopard, it also has a greatly improved interface since we last featured it. But what's most useful is the new blue dot, which indicates whether or not the song is already in your iTunes library, making Senuti perfect for "borrowing" a song or two from a friend's iPod without introducing duplicates to your iTunes library. Senuti is freeware, Mac OS X only. Windows users, check out previously mentioned YamiPod.

Senuti helped me save a lot of tunes from my iPod that I no longer owned on CD. Easy to use and pretty quick too.

please...before you go ahead and do this, RTFM. otherwise you might clusterf*ck your whole library

Arcade Fire and Bang Bang Rock 'n' Roll -- safeguard those precious indie tunes!
I prefer Ephpod because I'm comfortable with it. It runs on Windows and reportedly Linux as well...but didn't see binaries or packages for Linux on their site.

alternatively, there is Floola:

Works with Mac, Linux and Windows. LastFM support, growl, etc etc. Doesn't support all iPods yet though, but there is a beta that is bringing in support for 3G Nanos and Classics.

This was mentioned in the comments of a post a long while back (too lazy to look it up) and saved my A** when I screwed all my musc up that was hosted on a network attached drive. I was able to recover 80 Gigs of music and movies with litte effort. I have to agree with DISCOUNTEGGROLL and say RTFM. make sure you do it right. :P

Yeah, with regards to Senuti I was always concerned about the ability to "clusterfuck" the library as DiscountEggroll so eloquently puts it. I ended up using iPodDisk (which requires MacFuse). That blue dot feature sure is nice though.

Senuti is great. I used it to get the music off my daughter's partner's iPod before I restored it (she'd installed iPod Linux and the pod would not play--but Senuti was able to get all 1600 songs off it just fine). And then, of course, I was also able to transfer all that music to my own pod... oh gee, don't tell anyone, OK?
Anybody wanna buy a great, nearly pristine, 2nd gen firewire iPod? I have one for sale on eBay this week. Music included. :)

Lifehacker should take a stab at showing off all the features in the new winamp. Not sure if they are all new but currently it does allow to grab songs off ipods and put them on too. Supports feeds and a bunch more. Worth revisting after oh so many years.

I've been using this for at least 6 months now to rip a playlist off my iPod and onto a jump drive I take to school. I also used it to rip a season of Scrubs off my boyfriends iPod and it kept the episode numbers, descriptions, and season artwork in tact.

Will it work with the iPhone? (And is the version talked about on this post ver .50 or the beta, ver .50.1b1?)
