Make the Healthiest Choices with Your Unhealthy Fast Food

Sure you try to eat healthy, but hey, sometimes you want to drop a handful of fries and a burger into your gullet, and who are we to judge? But next time you get a hankering for some fast food, check out previously mentioned web site a Calorie Counter's comprehensive comparison of fast food nutritional facts. Comparing everything from fries and burgers to breakfast sandwiches and bread sticks, this sortable guide can steer you toward the lesser of all evils. Alternatively, you could skip the fast food altogether and try out the comparatively healthier microwave diet.

@2-7offsuit: I heard the same thing from my wife. When I lived in DC (Rosslyn) I ate there every night. Burrito Bowl (no tortilla) but with a big ol' side of chips and salsa. No wonder I gained weight even though I didn't have a car. Dang.

Damn. I was hoping to see Chipotle on that list. I've heard they have 1200+ calories with half of those coming from the tortilla alone. I really hope it's not true, because I eat there pretty much every other meal.

Here is a great site for getting the skinny on your Chipotle meal: [www.chipotlefan.com]
Yeah, the tortilla is pretty bad, but not horrible at 330 cal and 9g fat. The rice caught me off guard at 240 cal and 7g fat.
I'll still enjoy eating those epic burritos. :)

Are those stats US only or do the values carry worldwide?

@trstn: I would assume that it holds true world-wide. Maybe the serving portions are smaller, which would mitigate the problem a tiny bit, but you can't fry stuff and then still have it be healthy.
Makes me not want to eat fast food, period, or at least not eat the fried stuff from hell. Something the article misses is the soda component - none of this stuff is healthy per se, but you can at least not make a really bad situation even worse by skipping the soda.

I actually find it interesting that they didn't include chick-fil-a into the mix of fast food restraunts. While chick-fil-a may primarily be in the south they are a large fast food chain. I hardly ever see a Hardys or White Castle in the south.
For burgers I would understand, but not for chicken sandwhiches and nuggets and fries.
Also it made me happy to see Little Ceasers with the less calorie pizza. I used to eat one of those a day for a while because of tight money and the need for fast food. (Did stop when it got to be a little much) Overall I still prefer making my own sandwhiches at home than scarfing fast food. (Good thing they didn't include Long John Silvers, which would have trounced everything in the Calorie content I'm sure.)

You can get information about Chipotle from the Chipotle Fan site: [www.chipotlefan.com]

Wow I'd love to see this same sort of information organized for Canadians, with Canadian restaurants included.

My favorites:
Subway 6" subs, if you've REALLY got a weight problem skip the cheese and mayo, stick to the lean ones. Baked Lays on the side, and WATER.
Chipotle, go with the soft tacos, hold the sour cream, if you REALLY want to lose weight lose the cheese as well, ask for extra meat if you can. OR, get the bean burrito, hold the rice and sour cream, light on cheese. Beans are good for you, lots of fiber.
Pizza, check out the Papa Murphy's Dee-Lite pizzas, thin crust, somewhat better for you. Always going to be a comfort food, try to drink some water and/or eat some veggies beforehand to get full.
Long story short, smaller portions are better, avoid anything fried, and eat something between meals so you don't get way too hungry and eat a ton of food while your metabolism thinks you're starving.

I think we pay too much attention to number of calories, and not enough to what type of calories. Here is a useful resource:
