Windows only: Open source personal finance software GnuCash has made the leap to the thumb drive realm, making it easier to keep your financial data consistent across computers—at least Windows computers, anyways. Like its Windows/Linux desktop sibling, GnuCash Portable is still beta and a bit rough around the edges, but offers importing from Quicken and other proprietary formats and integrates with the PortableApps Suite, making it a nice addition to the host of mobile tools you can fit on one inexpensive thumb drive. GnuCash Portable is a free download and requires Windows to launch.

Gnucash has a decent "Tutorial and Concepts Guide" on their site at [svn.gnucash.org] It's written by the developers so may not be the most user friendly guide out there, but I found it pretty useful.

I would welcome more GnuCash posts. Or perhaps a GnuCash tag (seems a little odd that you had to tag it with Quicken and Money!). I just downloaded it this weekend and I could really use a Lifehacker step-by-step guide to getting started!

I wish there's a way as easy as its Windows's port to install it on Mac OS, especially for a Mac newbie.

I may now need to give GnuCash a closer look. I've been using an app called jGnash ([jgnash.sourceforge.net]) for about a year and half because it met my basic needs (portable, digital check register with some "reporting"). However, fewer of the accounts that I can manage online have the option to download transactions in a .QIF format.
Thanks for the heads up...

Heck, I just wish it would work on my computer ... the site lacks requirements (that I saw) and it hangs after the splash screen. Would love to give it a proper review, but until then ...

@Rayven01: Your link is broken ... this should fix it: [svn.gnucash.org]
