Keep Files Organised with The Magic Folder

Windows Vista Only: All too often, quick downloads and working under deadline leave documents, pictures, and other file types out of the specific folders so helpfully set up at installation. Free Vista sidebar widget The Magic Folder serves as a kind of maid for your file messes, automatically moving files you drop on it to their correct folders based on file extensions. The widget can be modified to move files to your own folder setups (allowing for some Getting-Things-Done-style filing, perhaps), but the neatest aspect is the option to have it watch a folder you choose and do its file-organising magic whenever a new file appears. The Magic Folder is a free download for Windows Vista only.

UltraFolder does something similar. When you drag any files onto it it pops up a quick dialog that lets you tag the file. Keeps all your files organized. Double clicking on the UltraFolder icon brings up a regular folder window with the tags listed on the left side. You click on the tags to show the files you want. Works great and its free! Works with Vista and XP.

I coded an app that does this in AutoIt a year or so ago. It's pretty simple to write something to do it. Mine isn't as pretty as the one mentioned, though.

Poor XP... So many cool things like this for Vista, but stupid Vista won't support my 5 monitor setup's antiquated video card! Curse microsoft.

Man, I wish there was either a Yahoo Widgets or non-widget based option, because I've sworn off both Vista and Google sidebar for Yahoos better offering, and I would hate to have to go back for this sweet thing.
Man, this would be incredibly useful. I download all my files to the desktop and then file them away later, this would simplify everything immensely.
I love a clean desktop.

For Linux users, you can achieve something similar with a bash script. I started writing one about a week ago. Windows users could probably use it too, with cygwin.
I would share, but its very specific to the way my files are organised. I'll look at making it more generic, if anyone is interested? :)
